Looking for a shop near Woodbridge, VA
I live in Woodbridge and am in need of a shop for a tune-up for my 90 GST. It's almost 100% stock except for the Apexi SAFC, i.e., no performance mods. I called a shop and told them that and they said they had no idea what an Apexi SAFC was, but they could tune-it up. I told the guy I had completed a lot of work on it and that the tune-up was the last thing it needed. He then said they won't touch it and no one else will either because no one will work on a car the owner has worked on. ??? I don't understand why. It runs great and doesn't need anything, I just want to get it tuned properly so it runs as close to perfect as possible. I don't want to take it somewhere where they have no clue what to do or break something and cause a problem and charge you for it (like the local Mitsubishi dealer). I've put a lot of work into this car and I want it 100% and a tune-up is the one thing I need. Any recommendations??? BTW, please don't recommend the dealer-I'll never go back there.
Thanks.

No. That's all done-don't need any new parts. The engine has been newly rebuilt (all stock internals) but just not yet tuned. I put in new 450cc (stock) injectors, new injector plugs, and a newly rebuilt throttle body. There were a bunch of little problems I fixed-vacuum leaks, electrical issues, etc., etc. But it hasn't been tuned. I have a pocket logger and SAFC, but I really don't know how to use them to tune the car. Do you know where I can take it to "get'r done" (and done right)?

You say the car is stock. Have you done any power mods to the car at all? From the sounds of what you have described, you dont need it tuned at all. Your still stock, the stock ECU is just fine.

I see. The warm idle is around 400rpms and fairly smooth so maybe you're right and nothing more is needed. Since I did so much of this work myself, I'd really like to get someone more experienced to check it out. I might be missing something. Maybe I'll wait until March 15 and take it to the GMU meet. Should be an experienced DSM'er or two around then.
