So first off I have a 1992 Plymouth Laser RS AWD Turbo. It is bone stock except for a TDO5 turbo that the previous owner had installed. It has been running great until two weeks ago. I was driving on the highway when all of the sudden it lost power and was running really rough and shaky. At first I thought I had a flat tire so I pulled over. I got out and checked the car out and everything was fine. But when I went to start it back up to my surprise it was running like crap and the check engine light was on. So I stopped by a shop and had them check it out. They pulled a TPS code and while I was there I got the compression checked (which it was good). So I ordered a new TPS and installed it. On the first start up it ran normal and then I stopped turned it off and started it back up and it ran like crap again with the CEL on again. So I have tried replacing the Ignition control module and Ignition coil also and nothing has seemed to work. All I know is the car runs fine on the first start up, but as soon as I turn it off after driving, it keeps doing the same problem. So I let it sit for a couple of hours and it starts up fine again. I am running out of ideas of what could be triggering the TPS CEL when the car is hot. Oh yeah I have just replaced the wires and plugs just for the hell of it to rule it out of the equation. Any help or new ideas would be appreciated. Thanks.

if you clear the code and it comes back then there is still a problem with tps circuit or it could even be a problem with the ecu . check your tps voltage at idle it should be less than 1 volt . check your wiring and make sure you don't have a short to ground or an open circuit.

I have checked all of the vacuum lines and everything looks good. All of the hoses are nice and tight too. Just had a boost leak test performed and fixed by a shop not too long ago.

I dont remember the exact number of the code. I had the dude at the shop said it was the tps code. I am going to pull it again and post it. It runs fine during the first initial start-up drive. It's only when I stop somewhere and turn it off after the car is warmed up when the CEL comes on and it runs bad. After it sits for an couple of hours the CEL goes away and it runs fine again.

whats the best way to test the tps voltage at idle? Sorry electrical is not my strong suit. I was also thinking maybe my ecu has crapped out on me but i will definitely check into the suggestions you posted. thanks

Solved! I figured out how to pull the code with my data logger and pulled a code 41, which is the fuel injector circuit. So I replaced the fuel injectors and problem solved.
