proud owner of a new a 97 eclipse but i need help

i just bought a eclipse and im wanting to make it where it runs almost perfect but i have issues...i think....when i bought it the car had been sitting for about a week or more before i bought it but when i drive it i get a weird sound almost like a light grinding but the clutch be in neutral and i get a squelling sound at times im geussing its a week clutch and bad brakes and i also get a strong smell of gasoline when i i driving it exhaust leak maybe? hit me up with your opinions all help is appreciated and also if you can find me a good price on a 2g turbo kit let me know stock is fine

Throw-out bearing in the clutch is prob going out. Total clutch replacement coming up.

Get a brake job. Lift up the rear seat, pull up the gas pump cover to see what's going on under there.

Got a lot of green lining all of your pockets in all your pants to turbo that 420A motor?

If you want, I have a couple of 14b turbos laying around with a spare manifold I could sell you. If you come to OKC I'll lend you a hand with the brakes and fuel tank/smell. I'm not too good with clutches, though...

I agree you probably need a brake job and clutch job because that sounds like a tob going out. Also you better do a lot of research to make sure you want to turbo the 420a, it's not as easy as getting a stock gst manifold and turbo and bolting it on. I don't have time to find any links right now, but go to google and type in "420a turbo under $1000" and that is by far the cheapest way. You never know how long the motor will last though so you better be ready for a rebuild at anytime.

+1 on the throwout bearing and the new clutch. check to make sure you don't have any fuel leaks and make sure the the top of the fuel tank is sealed tight under your rear seat. If you want to check for exhaust leaks you will have to get under there and look for holes in the pipes or carbon deposits around clamps to make sure theres no leaks. you should also be able to hear the leaks meaning the exhaust would be louder than normal unless you have a non stock style muffler. either way its going to take some effort to check.

thanks for the tips im not in any hurry to turbo it i would it be with the tob going out would it be safe in its current condition to make a long trip? cause i have to go to missouri soon and i dont want to be left on the side of the road

I'd get it fixed first. The last thing you want to happen is adding another few hundred bucks to your repair in towing costs.

For what will happen is that TOB will eventually self destruct and destroy the input shaft of the tranny. Then, you got a tranny overhaul in front of you - to replace that input shaft.

Not to be a tool but... Did you even check the tranny fluid??? Might wanna check it, I also just got a new DSM, 96 talon esi and had a similar sound. checked the tranny fluid, topped it off and POOF!!!!! No problems just a neglectful previous owner. Its worth a shot

How many times on any type of vehicle have I heard of someone replacing just the TOB and thinking things are great.... And a month later needing a new clutch??? Too many, unless your clutch is "brand new" replace it too, no point of doing all that T work in less than a 90 day period.

Honestly putting a turbo on that will cost you a little bit of change, and wont hold up as long

get your car running properly before u think of turbo'n that 420a, id do a clutch/tob, when was the timingbelt etc.. changed? all b4 even thinking to turbo that

about the smelling gas, could be an exhaust leak, or you need a serious tune up, spark plugs and wires, pcv valve, air filter, fuel filter.
