So his is the second time his happened but first was 2 weeks ago.

Well today I am on my way to school and it is running a litle hot, well it kept climbing and when I shut it off some coolant started to dribble from in the water pump area. Cant tell you exactly were I was observing from a distance. But it only let out bout 2 cups or so of coolant. Not sure why I over heated but it threw a code so I am goin to check that and coolant levels in a bit. Is this a sign of coolant pump going out? no noises ran fine before. The time before was only a little half dallor size puddle.

Tried refilling it and it just pissed all over. It is coming from behind the pump pulley.

Ya that are it is from. How hard is it to do in frame? I really got no resources to take it out. And what else should I do? I know timing belt, and maybe bse. anything else?

Doing a water pump is a timing belt with an extra 10 minutes to install a new pump. If you want to do a BSE properly, I've read you have to remove the oil pan and therefore the transfer case is applicable.

Ok how hard is the timing belt in frame? And is that true bait the bse? THat seems like a lot of work LOL

I would not suggest doing the BSE with the engine in the car. It is possible, but if you hardly have the resources to do a water pump and timing job, you should throw another balance shaft belt and tensioner pulley on there and be done with it. Yes you must remove the oil pan to do the BS elimination job: Balance Shaft Eliminator Kit Install

Timing and water pump on the other hand are accessible in the 1G engine bay: Timing Belt VFAQ (Timing Belt TSB - ENHANCED)

The water pump is 5 bolts, a gasket, and an o-ring. Once the timing belt is off, it is really straight forward.

Alright sounds good looks like i will start filling some shopping cars with parts LOL

What do I do about that special tool? is it needed or no?

None of the OEM special tools listed in the walk through are absolutely necessary to have as there are plenty of generic substitutes that work just fine. Something like this spanner wrench helps with the timing belt tensioner pulley: Schley 98700 Tension Pulley Spanner

I've heard of people using needle nose pliers to do the same job. Basically you need something to fit in the hole(s) on the tensioner that allows you room to to rotate it (apply tension to the belt) and tighten the bolt in the center at the same time with another hand.

There are these tools to help with the hydraulic tensioner:
Timing Belt VFAQ Addition 1
Timing Tool (Same as above but different write-up)
http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/articles-parts-fabrication/386230-using-alternator-bolt-timing-tension-tool.html

And here's a nice link to look at to ensure you've got the hydraulic tensioner set correctly: http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/bolt-tech/380501-timing-belt-tensioner-measurement.html

Alright, I am probably going to use the alternator bolt method LOL, it seems the esiest and cheapest! LOL How long does a TB and water pump take? Is it an all day affair? 2 days?

It could take awhile if you have no special tools and no experience with this sort of thing.

With the special tools (worth every penny and then some) and experience, its a couple hours if you just get it done with no snags. This is not going to happen the first time you do it.

It takes most of the day if you take your time, clean and inspect everything, and run into a few problems/undiscovered issues.

Check all your seals, crank seal, oil pump seal, etc. Make sure everything on the front of the motor is clean and working as it should.

Good luck!

I use the battery hold-down bolt "special tool". It seems practical to me to mod that bolt on each dsm I own, just in case. The hardest part of the timing belt is getting the cover off and on without cracking it or going insane. The hardest part of the water pump is getting the gasket to stay where it is supposed to. I glued mine to the pump with a thin, even, coat of RTV the night before. I then left it flat side down over night, on a flat surface, with a bit of weight on it, on a sheet of waxed paper.

With and without, 25bucks for those 2 tools is worth 3 times that in time/headache saved.

I would say its gonna take you around a day and a half if you have no prior experience doing a timing belt, the water pump is no big deal to replace its pretty straight forward.

Make sure the water pump you get has a metal impeller wheel, not the cheap plastic wheel. I would go OEM on the water pump. I've had all types of overheating issues with the plastic type.

I bought the Jay racing kit, which has the plastic tool to lock the cam gears in time, the bolt for the tensioner arm, and the tool to torque the pulley.

It's the difference between throwing the belt on, having it in time and tensioned properly in a few minutes, or spending a frustrating hour trying to do the same thing with ground down pliers, wedging things, ending up with bloody knuckles, etc.

I agree, worth the price the first time you use it.

I have a $35 autozone pump with a metal impeller. Works fine to 8K rpm (prob more but that's as high as i go), no sealing issues or anything, and MUCH cheaper than Mitsu. Also has the duralast warranty, so if it fails it's covered.

We just lifted mine with a block of wood from the oil pan using the other two motor mounts to help support the weight. My oil pan is fine by the way LOL.

You just jack it up a bit and it gets really easy to work on.

EXTREME PSI : Your #1 Source for In Stock Performance Parts

I got this whole kit and it worked just fine. Its best to do all of the tensioners and bel. shaft belt and all of that at the same time.

This looks to be the kit I will get then, I was lookign at STM's site, but all they had was w/ oem belt and a bse, but the extreme psi one comes with everything needed. Now one question though, on the part with the option for the TB if I choose the Gates TB + BB that means I dont have to select a balance shaft belt option correct? But I still get the balance belt?

I will also look into the Jay racing tool kit.

I would suggest a gates water pump. Better than most, just as good as OEM in my opinion. Cheaper too.

Probably a good idea. I went autozone because i was putting my car back together and noticed a droplet on the weep hole, so local was the only option.

It hasn't proven to be a poor choice though.

If you need help with stuff, post up on AZAWD that you are buying booze and pizza or something and I am sure you can get a few people who have done this before. I haven't, so I wouldn't be of much use haha. I just did all this when I rebuilt my engine.. out of the car!

haha, once I get my money and this stuff ordered I will start making plans and post up on here and azawd. I can supply pizza and beer not a problem, too, only would need another guy or 2, my garage is rather small to be having too many ppl ocme to just eat and drink LOL.
