So i have little to no compression in cylinder #1 and may need to replace the head. What will i need to buy (other than the replacement head) to complete this task? Im not a n00b but ive never swapped a head. Im planning on a cheap swap so please no expensive or unecassery ideas. Oh, im stationed in a little town in Germany so i dont have the luxury of cheap parts and junk yards. I will need to ship most parts from the states and i want to order most if not all at the same time. Any help is appreciated.

No compression can mean several things...

1, bad rings in the pistion

2, head gasket problems

3, head is warp

4, Valves aren't seating(may be due to bent valves)
But, if you don't suspect timing being off, piston will not hit valves.

In order to correctly diagnosis this you need further testing. Please don't go out and buy expensive head yet which may not be the case. if the head is warp, send the head to machine shop to have it resurface will be cheapest way.

Do a lead down test will pinpoint where the problem is, weather its the head or pistons. And also note how the car runs. blue smoke on the back is burning oil, white smoke is burning coolant. I am sure i am leaving out bunch of stuff to correctly diagnosis the problem but this is all i can think off right now. I hope this help...

It may also help to say that this happened all of a sudden one day. It wasnt gradual. Does that help the diagnosis?

If it happened all of a sudden you may want to verify that your timing belt didn't skip a tooth or two and end up bending a valve. As said above, you would be good to do a leak down test.
