Gas release stuck!

Help! 98 eclipse spyder gst. When I hit the lever to open the lock on the gas cover nothing happens and I need to fill up! Any ideas?

Have someone hold the lever up while you pry on the gas door (screwdriver covered in a towel)?

Does the lever move freely and the cap isn't popping open or is the lever stuck down?

A. Cable broke if there is free lever motion.
B. Release mechanism isn't popping out cap.
C. Cable is seized if you cannot lift it or if you need to use force.

There's a clip that holds the spring in place on the fuel door that tends to pop out and cause this problem.

FYI: The part is super cheap. MSRP on it is $1.48.

If you have to get it open alone you could try bending a paper clip and wedge it in the fuel door in a way that would push the door open when you pull the lever. At least for now.

The lever does move freely w/o popping the cap open. Ended up using the screw driver w/ towel which did the trick, but now I need to find out if I need to replace the cable or the clip?

The clip is in tact and in place. I believe the cable is broken. How do you go about replacing it?

Meh seemed like way too much hassle so for now I just cut the cable out by the passenger tail light and stripped the wire so I can just release it from there by hand in the mean time.
