I just had a 6bolt 4G63 swap in my 98 Eclipse Gs-T and while the engine was out I had my mechanic replace the timing belt and now after 300 miles just keeping a eye on belts and oil level, i attached a image of the belt. Also I am getting spots of oil leaks on the ground , what seals or gasket may need replacement...since the engine was sitting for close to a year w/o running.

Thanks for the Help.

Well where is it leaking from? Then you will know what gaskets to get also the groove on your timing belt is because the bolt on the oil pan was too long. you need a shorter one i would keep an eye on that and get it changed soon. cars sit for a long time but that doenst really mean oil leaks so i would look for leaks while its running. your not giving us much to work with are what do you want to do fix leaks or the belt?

You swapped out the engine and never replaced the gaskets, I would have atleast did an overhaul gasket kit, if not a full rebuild+timing kit and BSE.

I want to fix the timing belt 1st and then oil leaks which are just minor nothing major....I will double check the bolt on the oil pan...would there be any other cause for the belt to be chewed up like that?

that is definitly the wrong bolt in the oil pan all the bolts look the same size but there are like three that are a little shorter common mistake, i would swap the bolts around and get a new timing belt

There are two oil pan bolts that are shorter than the rest. One of these is used under the crank pulley and the other one is under the oil pump sprocket. As mentioned, the groove in the belt is the classic sign from the longer bolts being used in these locations.

As far as the oil leak you need to give us more info as to the area where the oil is coming from. Under what area is the oil puddling?

Had to bring this thread back to life. My question is if the Oil pan bolts are all correct, what would else would cause wear in the inner portion of the timing belt?

Surface imperfections on the idler or tensioner pullies, a loose belt that is so loose the belt is deflecting enough to hit something it shouldn't hit... or maybe just a warped timing belt cover, but you'll usually hear that. BTW... Cam, crank, or BS seals would be your most likely source of oil leaks at the front of the engine. I can tell one of my cam seals is leaking; there is always fresh oil on the inner radius of the outer ring of the exhaust-cam sprocket.

When you say "inner portion of the belt" you don't mean the tooth-side, do you? As opposed to the photo you supplied?
