So, after the: The Official "What's this DSM worth?" Thread, The Official "What should I Spend Money On?" Thread... ETC. This is the
Official Should I Buy This DSM? Thread

I'm creating this thread because I see those single threads all the time, I feel it's taking too much space and people aren't putting enough details (most times).

So please, as of now, try to use this thread to get your answers. I'll establish some basic guidelines to make it a bit easier on you if you don't know what to post:

-Link or Advertisement of the car in question.
-Price/Trade etc.
-Condition of the car
-Pictures if not included in the ad. or if the seller sent you some more.
-Did you speak to the seller?
-Anything wrong with the car?
-If so, can you do the work on it yourself or will you have it done professionally?
...and more importantly; what's your plan with the car?!

**Rules**

- No flaming of potential choices of those posting. If you have nothing informational to post then don't post. All 'Flaming' attempts will be reported.
- Spell correctly, this isn't an instant messenger or a "txt" so please use capital letters, punctuation and proper spelling.
- No bench racing or street racing b/s etc.
- No bumping or duplicate posting.
- Use your head, read the forum rules and apply them in here as well.

Disclaimer: I personally already have a DSM and I'm not looking for one; which is why I have no questions or recommendations to ask at the moment, when the time comes that i'll need your opinions on my purchase i'll post it in here accordingly. The reason I started this thread is to make it easier for everyone and also to clean up the hangout forum a bit. If you want to create a whole new thread to make your question more noticeable please simply use this thread and utilize bigger or more colorful fonts etc. If you don't get the answers that you want, verify if you gave enough details in the first place.

Thanks Kei!

Also; any tips & recommendations (guidelines etc.) to make this thread better is welcome btw!

Now, please people Make this work! If you do, we'll get results and you'll get what you want: Answers! :)

- No flaming of potential choices of those posting. If you have nothing informational to post then don't post. All 'Flaming' attempts will be reported.

Add that one. We want to keep this nice and useful, not full of "You're an idiot for wanting a car with a wing."

Added to **Rules**! :thumb:

To the first poster who'll be using this thread for it's intended purpose (asking if you should buy this DSM...) I suggest you use a larger font or something colorful as mentioned in my disclaimer just so it's easier to follow.

I'll be the first.

So, recently I've been struggling to find an AWD 2G that I can utilize DSMlink in. Well, the only ones that I've found so far are a Minty Silver 2GB GSX that needs the engine finished up (IE the axels installed, hoses and harness hooked up.) for $2300. The second is a mildly built 2Ga Talon AWD complete with a Shep Trans, Eagle Rods, JE pistons, ECM+ (A piggyback tuning system) and a few other things. I have 60+ images of it, a very flexible seller, lots of spare parts coming with it, videos, and talked him down to only $2700. Only issues are that the 02 Sensor went out so the Wideband is simulating the signal, and the Rear seal on the t-Case leaks under heavy load. Besides that it's in Daily Driver area.

But this caught my eye today.

95 GSX - DSM Classifieds

Of course, he's a member here, it's fairly close, and I'm sure we can come to an agreeable price. ^^ Insight?

I can see your dilemma :hmm:

Are the two previous choices also near you?

The red 95 GSX is still what like 7-8h's from you? I'm sure you don't mind but still.. driving back and forth like that for possibly something that's not worth it may be a pain.

The mildly built 2GA Talon has it's goodies which is always fun but can also mean problems...

And the silver 2GB GSX could be an easy fix or could also be a "project".
I don't know; I'd see what kind of price I could get for the red 95 GSX and go from there.

Well, here is my other choice, the 2G AWD that's mildly modded. I don't mind sharing the listing as I have offered their asking price and the Talon is basically sold to me. >;3 Just gotta go pick it up this Saturday.

ALL WHEEL DRIVE TURBO Eagle Talon (Tsi AWD) + Many mods

I really do enjoy it as the owner Contacted a lot of dealers/suppliers/vendors/shops for information on what to do with it and put his own spin on it. It runs, idles, drives, shifts without grinds. He's taken pictures, videos, phone calls, hell I spent a good 1-2 hours on the phone with him just discussing the car and DSM's in general and he, not once, gave off the "I'm just a ricer and have no idea what I'm talking about" vibe. In fact, if he didn't know something he told me.

He explained that the main reason he's asking the quoted price is because he A : Owns a Lancer. B : Has to pay back a loan taken out for school. He wants it to go to someone who will take care of it, I offered what I knew and my plans for it, and we came to an understanding. Now I'm just trying to justify if it's the right choice.

Just to add, the spare parts that come with it will get my Talon up and running, so I'll have 2 running DSMs. ;3 Also, if you notice what I did, about the clutch, I addressed that question already. Clutch will certainly have to be upgraded. He explained that it kept the idea out of mind of driving the car hard because the clutch certainly wouldn't hold up to too much.

That's a pretty good deal right there imho. The seller seems very reasonable and the car has lots of nice extra's. My vote is for this one!

Ahh. Support. ;P

Now if people would quit flaking on buying my damned car.

Have you thought about doing a "nice" Fast & Furious paint job to attract the lil'rich oblivious kids? :p

I was wondering if anyone thought this was a good deal?

1997 Mitsubishi Eclipse gs
5 Speed, 113k miles. 18 inch Wheels. Blue paint. Body Kit. Lowered. Camber kits. Stage 2 clutch, stage 2 pressure plate, and Aluminum 8 lb flywheel, from clutchnet.com. New timing belt installed at 85k miles. NGK spark plugs, MSD plug wires. Toucan 2.5" cat-back aftermarket exhaust, with a new o2 sensor. AEM cold air intake. Tan leather interior in excellent condition. 4 guage monster cable amp wiring kit is installed and ready for your amp. I-Pod hookup installed. 6 disk CD changer. 8K RPM guage w/shift light...Metal shift knob...

25-30 mpg depending on how you drive. I get a solid 26 mpg driving to work and back.

The car runs excellent. LOTS of money invested. I have paper work and RECEIPTS.
I bought this car with a salvaged title, when I bought it I had it looked over for frame damage. It had no damage so I took it over to Les Schwabs to have it aligned and it aligned perfect, with no problems, so I bought the car.
The front bumper has small cracks and rock chips, as it is fiberglass.
This car is ready to go, turn the key and have some fun.
$5300

No trades, no payments..
Sad to see my beauty go, but it's time to move on, and let someone else enjoy it.
Thanks for looking have a great day.

Really depends; I personally wouldn't spend that much for a gs, it is somewhat clean from what I can see though (except the rear bumper seems to have bad fitment) but nothing "over the top", are you looking more for show or for go? I personally find a stock 2GB Eclipse or Talon to be better looking and plus you get the "go". I see that you already have a 97 GSX so perhaps you just want a show car? I don't know, personally I wouldn't go for it.

Thank You OP.
Finally. I'm f in tired of see those threads 4 times a week. Mods please endorse this and throw/ merge all the other new ones with this.

I'm pretty sure most people who truly value this site would be up for more ideas like this, if only we could find a way to make this more noticeable so other members (new members in particular) don't create other threads about this by mistake (yes, I understand mistakes happen).

This thread is a good idea and I like it, except it's probably going to get overrun with everyone and their dogs pretty soon. Just like the "what's my DSM worth".

Yayyy my turn.

So like I said earlier (in the first post), I'm not looking for a car, well it turns out that I found something that I may still be interested in, let me know what you think.

Here's what the ad says (translated in English of course)

Price: $3 600,00 CAD
Turbo AWD with 150000km
Tansmission: Automatic
Exterior: Red with black roof
Interior: Grey leather

Fully equiped

Original 16'' mags with almost new winter tires
Original 17'' mags with almost new sumer tires

Interior and Exterior very clean

Reason for sale: need more room for new born kid

(would also trade for S.U.V. or any 4x4 of same value)

Goal for the car

-Convert to 2GB Talon body (If I can find everything)
-FP Green powered daily driver with all the supporting mods.
-Wire tuck and all black engine bay
-Maybe, and I say maybe do a manual transmission conversion
-Do a black and beige interior (Maybe all black, not sure yet)
-Store during winter

So, what do you guys think? Worth it or not? (I'm aware that it'll be my decision in the end btw)

I'll probably try to get it for a bit less, but a + or - a couple of hundred bucks ain't too bad for me, just need to kick my self in the butt and do a bit more over time.

He says there's absolutely nothing wrong with the car, pictures where taking this October so they're recent. There's zero rust on the strut towers, he brought it for a ''tune up'' last month and said everything is in excellent shape. I asked him to do a compression test and give me pictures of the engine bay before I make any decision.

The fact that it's auto doesn't bother me at all, it's bone stock and I imagine he couldn't have beat it too much being that it's not 5speed (can't over rev. etc.). And transmission conversion is always possible, I wouldn't mind having a nice built 5 speed trans. in there.

And about that 95 GSX, I am the one selling it, and I haven't even seen it yet. So in our PMs I told him he may want to go after a different car cause I wouldn't be able provide an accurate description. I am working off my dads and the previous owners descriptions. I'm looking more to sell it to someone that can see it first because I don't want to rip anyone off, or make them feel like I did.

On another note a couple of decent ones someone may be interested in. Obviously being in Iraq, I have no further detail than what is mentioned in the ads.

EXTRA NICE 92 TALON TURBO CHARGE LOW LOW MILES

I do know the third one is an auto, but hey, it's a white 2gb. I don't know if it's FWD or AWD though.

That's a good buy. I'd go for it. Automatic is best for launches/continuous pull. And apparently the auto transmission is quite a bit stronger opposed to the manual.
