I have looked everywhere possible.. I dont know where else to turn, so here I am, at my favorite DSM forum to ask:

Where do I find elephant ears to bolt in a chevy small block in an 86 mitsu starion?

I dont want to hear WHY I shouldnt do this.. just help.. LOL..

I have the car, the motor, tranny, and other stuff.. but I have no idea where to look for v8 conversion stuff..

anyone have any ideas?

Call Jesse James . . . LOL -

Wow - I`ve never heard of anyone attempting to do this -
You - or someone - will need better than average fabrication skills & a tall budget -

Good luck

Your going to have to have to make them! Have you set the motor in place? If the mounts are close you can order wed-in mounts form places like summit or jegs. Other than that its gonna be custom. You may have to do some fire wall and transmission tunnel modifications to make it work.

Going to need to fab your own. Can I make a suggestion? Why not do a small block mopar engine? The car is part mopar anyways... everyone puts SB chevys into everything... why not be different?

sick.. i know I will have to fab some stuff.. im going to rebuild the rear end so its all strong like.. I have an 89 iroc-z driveshaft, and a fully built 350 with about 400 hp.. Im going to custom fab the tranny mount on the stock crossmember to mount up a 5spd 88-90 z28 tranny..

I KNOW these will go in here without too much work.. I was just hoping that someone had an actual motor mount conversion bracket.. LOL..

yeah.. i got this car, wanted to keep it 4-boosted.. but hey.. a buddy and I decided to build this one with a v8... im going to smoke every "fitty" in the bay.. haha

Those links didnt really help though.. i have googled till my hands got hairy.. haha

anyone else know of any places or maybe even any how to's for other cars, so i can see what they are doing to make their conversion brackets?

Like a v8 in a starion isnt? LOL.. most people have never even heard of this car..

1. F**k a mopar engine.. chevy all day.. haha.. ive worked on quite a few mopars.. dont like em.. unless they are fast, then ill at least respect them

2. I already have a 400hp 350.. I dont need/want to get another motor

3. Its going to be just as hard to swap them in... so im just going with what I got..

4. CHEVY SMB ON MINE, SON!!..

haha..
400hp v8 is a 400 hp v8.. LOL.. unless its a chev.. then its faster.. (im just messin with ya.. LOL

Here is the cardomain profile for it.. its got a few pics in there

Hello? Not to get offended but CIN Motorsports did the swap I would suggest calling them and requesting to purchase a set of their mounts. I guess you didnt read enough ;)

wow.. no need to be a jerk.. im looking at their site now.. i just dont see anything.. plus, i just emailed them, and im waiting for a response.. sorry for not doing it fast enough for ya.. haha

but im also asking if anyone else here has seen others do swaps like this, and if they have any pics of what the mounts look like, in case I gotta make them myself.. im more of a DIY guy anyway, but bolt ons would be nice :thumb:

I wasnt being a jerk. But in your initial post you said "Where do I find elephant ears to bolt in a SBC" Leading me to believe you wanted them prefabbed. My bad. I would suggest calling them. You might have better luck. ;)

The guy that did the CIN swap no longer works for them. I can't remember his name off hand but he's a member on starquestclub and that car is just insane, since that article it's gotten faster. Starquestclub is down at the moment for reasons unknown to me, but once it comes back, post up and you'll get an answer. It's somewhat of a common swap, along with 5.0 Fords.

There's a guy on SQC with a pair of 5.0 swapped 'quests, one being a turbo 5.0. Like I said, go over to SQC or 2.6 liter and post up, or just lurk around the forum for awhile and you'll find everything you need.

yeah.. im going to.. im at work, so phone time is frowned upon.. haha

i cant wait to do this though.. its going f**kin dip

Yeah dude, they haul. You are going to have to modify (hammer) the firewall and tranny tunnel some to fit that trans in, also fab up a trans mount. I'm almost positive someone documented their whole V8 swap on one of the Starion/Conquest forums so you should be all set once you get home.

Good luck man

for sure.. i tried going there, and noticed it was down, as well.. haha.. that sucks..

I guess even after all the reading I do, the only thing I can do is start pulling the starion apart.. haha.. Im just waiting for the weather to cool off so I can take a 3 day weekend, pull the motor, clean the engine bay, and see what I can do.. LOL.. i have a welder, so now its time to put it to use.. this is going to be fun..

well, the car is going to be FULLY gutted, so I dont have to worry about making changed in the interior that wont let the interior parts go in.. ill beat the shi+ out of it.. haha..

We actually went with the manual simply because the bell housing and tranny altogether are smaller than an auto, and would be easier to get in there..

I know your set on a 350 chevy, but that is about the worst swap ever. 95% chance youl have that ginormous HEI distributor on the back, and a rear sump oilpan. The g54b was front sump I belive. Choosing a ford or a lsx style motor would be a much better choice.

ummm.. like I said.. I ALREADY have the motor, tranny, and most of the other stuff.. and we already thought about the dizzy.. LOL.. we are going to COP setup for that.. We were already getting an MSD box, so this seemed to be the good fit for it..

As for the oilpan, I already found a conversion for it.. :)

mmm.. found nice clutches on summitracing, too.. hehehe

why on gods green earth did you not go with a built 318? its narrower block, so it tucks in between fenders well, gets GREAT gas milage, and makes power. for under 2k bucks...including the junkyard block and rebuild, you could have over 300hp easy. but its custom fab time, take some 350 ears and try fitting them into the starion..just play and adjust with what you got. its really easy to do with those plastic engine blocks for mock-up. good luck, god speed, and hold on tight when its done!

not trying to knock chevy, go-fast parts are cheap...and mopar's arent so much...but even a guy with a toyota celica put a 318 in his..well not sure if its done, but it was on allpar.com (find it here Mopar 318-powered Toyota Celica )

Well I would probably start by lowering a 350 block into the hole and see what you got to work with. This isn't a common swap, and your not going to find tons of info.

Yeah.. LOL.. im looking forward to it.. LOL.. im just hoping there are lil things I can do to make it easier.. LOL

Why on your god's green earth wouldnt you read all posts first?

I ALREADY HAVE A FULLY BUILT 400HP 350...

this is a RACE CAR.. haha.. I dont give a shi+ about gas.. If I cared about gas, I wouldnt be dropping in a v8..

so yeah.. im using the chevy small block, so everyone get over it.. hahahaha..

you could have over 300hp easy

already got it sitting in the garage.. actually MORE than that.. i just need to drop it in.. thanks though :)

whats funny, is if I said I was going to put in a ford or dodge motor, then everyone would be saying to drop in a chevy or ford motor.. haha.. no matter what I was going to do, there would be people telling me not to..

people crack me up.. haha

sell that 350 and go get a poked and stroked 528 crate hemi? that was my bad, but sure, 350s are good and cheap. make sure that rear doesnt explode...go get you a 9" or a 12 bolt, and then have fun!

you should use a pontiac 455, becuase i have seen them blown on nitro!

HELL YEA!! My buddy and I, when first discussing this, wanted to boost it, but fuel injection is a bi***, and I wanted to boost right.. Supercharging is hella common on every v8.. i would LOVE it... but y eah.. helllla pricey

I have run No2 on cars before, and I think it would be nice to have a 100 shot in this when we finish.. I KNOW the motor can take it, and as long as we get an MSD box to tune the ignition, and make sure we dont lean out, then we will have a HOT ass lil car

i actually heard that the rear ends, when built up, can take the power.. I DO have an 89 iroc-z rear end... LOL.. maybe we could make that fit? LOL.. its got posi, and it can take a SHIT load of power.. haha

I no a-sella the 350... alraedy got power.. LOL

I respect your decision and why 100% and the fact that someone found it worth saving and putting time and effort into.

Myself its MoPar

Seriously many elephant ears would work with just modifications, as it is pretty straight forward simple design. I also would NOT use the Starion rear axle as I am sure with any kind of HP/Torque it won't last long.

If memory serves me the old 55-57 Chevies had front block mount tabs from factory and aftermarket straddle mount strap that dipped under the damper.
