even with a 6 bolt. once you get all the maintenance issues taken care of and as long as you don't hammer on it all the time then a dsm is ok as a daily driver.

so owning a dsm as my daily car is not good, because ill be driving to my college like twice a week back and forth and its 2 hours away

And you wonder why dsm's always get a bad rap from everyone.Jesus, its no different from any other car.Keep up on the maintenance and the car will be fine.I've daily driven mine since I was 16 and have never had any major problem with it that has left me on the side of the road.Keep in mind it has 193k on the clock..subie or dsm?come on now, your on a dsm forum

how much would it cost to get a dsm in the low 11's

well when that dsm runs perfectly fine one day and the next day you hop in it and all of a sudden it dont start, whats there to do now, kick the tire and say effing mother effer. :p hope you dont have a job interview cause they went on to the next candidate.

hahaha i know haha so you would say subaru should be a good first car ?

Thats a pretty broad question with a lot of variables man.A full weight street car(AWD),I would have to say a minimum of 4 grand.Get the car first before you worry about getting into the 11's.And it will cost you a lot less to get in the 11's with a dsm, rather than an sti.Just look at the price difference between the two from the get go.

so if i have 6500$ on me to get a dsm and buy one for 2100 with a 6bolt thats missing some parts to make it start like needs an amp fuse, the oil return line connected, the j-pipe connected and little things like that, The engine is a 6bolt bottom with a 7bolt head and then ill have around 4000 left? how much would it be with a car like that

Dsm's aren't bad cars to drive daily but, like any car, you gotta keep up with the maintenance. They are pretty old cars now so, if you buy one be sure the maintenance is up to date. Otherwise, you may be putting lots of money into it catching up with the maintence. You can save a lot of money working on it yourself. This forum has all the info you need.

I guess it really depends on what you want. Those are very different cars. They are both AWD though. Would you rather have a sedan or coupe? The sti obviously has more interior space if that matters. It's newer a may still have a warranty on it. Search the net for reviews on both cars and test drive both of them to help you decide.

I honestly can't say that there is any more of a chance of that happening to a well maintained dsm,as compared to any other car.Its not like these things are brand new.I mean damn, their all between 10 and 19 years old.

truthfully it all boils down to who you buy the car from and how it was treated, a well maintained dsm is good, but a beaten on and abused dsm is a future problem, the seller can smile in your face and say its a good car, you get it home and boom :ohdamn:

the guy says he has a carfax and all that he said he had a 6bolt rebuilt and didnt have enough time and money to finish it so what do you think

be a good learning experience, if you like the car then buy it, i would recommend a dsm over a suby though anyway.

would i fit it in though hahah i dont want to look like a clown coming out of a toy bug
and with 4000$ what should i do to it so it run like new and be reliable everyday and at the track i dont want be on the side of the road 2 hours away from home

i say buy the car, start putting it together, and if something is needed that he didnt provide or needs replacing use it for that, and after the car is running use it for some aftermarket things, i cant really tell ya what to buy, maybe a blow off valve a intercooler things of that type, but i cant really tell ya what to get, except the parts to get her running.

post some pics when you get it we wanna see some progress LOL.

I know theres people from SD, I think like 4-5 people in the group buy for the rear diffuser are from that area, check out here:
SoCal DSM Club - DSMtuners

As to the first few mods here is the best two starting points:
Tech Guide: 2G 4G63t Upgrades - DSMtuners
RRE 2nd Generation Eclipse Upgrade Path

As mentioned do the maintenance first and worry about running 11's later when you don't have to worry about your timing belt snapping halfway down the track.
