I know of one guy Interex that has a 2000 Galant 4G64 block, I followed his thread, but didn't get a definite outcome of his swap.
I PM'd him, but I haven't got a response yet.

The 8g Galant 4G64 is mounted on the passenger side and the transmission is on the driver's side.

Does anyone know if the 4G63 7-bolt parts that typically bolt up to the short block can bolt up to the 99 4G64 7-bolt short block.
I'm talking about the water pump, oil pump, dip stick, A/C compressor, oil pan, etc...

LMK what you know.

So, I found a pic of a 99-03 Galant engine bay.
Can this bad boy be used as a 2.4L Long Rod with a 1g DOHC Head in a 2g GSX?

If you want to do this why not buy a 4G64 out of a convertible 2G for like 200.00?

Also there is nothing in particular that stops you from turning the block the opposite direction, other then the motor mounts being different. So there should never be a reason why anyone should say "it won't work." It can with the right amount of customization.

Anything can work actually, including putting a 4G63 into a 420A, if you can weld, you can do it. The real issue is, is it cost-effective. The answer is no.

Nah, it's not gonna work as easily as I want too.
This particular motor will swap into an Evo and a 420A.
I agree nothing keeps me from turning the motor around, but the oil pump is different and so is the oil pan.

This is a killer link that explains when they changed the 4G63.

It happen with the Evo IV...

Sure, anything is possible, but I asked if everything would swap over directly, and according to what you said, I have to be able I weld.
I can weld, but I do not have access to a welder, nor do I want to deal with different oil pumps and oil pans...

Thanks for your reply.

1st, I have a 99 4g64 block and it looks almost identical to my 4g63 block from my 96 TSi AWD.

Although the block in the Galant was turned 180/ it will work in our 2G just rotated. I'll be using my 63 oil pan, and all the other parts off my 63 engine. Now if you look at a 2000+ Eclipse 4g64, they are NOT the same block as the 99/2000 Galant 4g64. Yes they are both 4g64 engines but the newer Eclipse engine is designed differently.

Could you mean 1999/2003 Galant 4G64's?

I re-read your swap thread "4G63 to 4G64 swap" and you did mention you had a 99 Galant 4G64, my apologies.
I think it was Delta448 that mentioned he had a 2000 Galant 4G64.

Yes, the motors are 180* out and will bolt up to the existing T-Belt motor mount.
Can you confirm the use of your 2g T-Belt Motor Mount, or can you use the 4G64 T-Belt Motor Mount?
I've read that 7-bolt cranks are all the same, the differences are in the blocks?

I can't find any info on here or else where that you finished your swap.

Can you verify that your 4G63 7-bolt Oil Pan, Front Case/Oil Pump and Water Pump will swap directly over?
I know you say you'll be using the 63 oil pan and all other parts off your 63 engine, but I would like to get a definite answer for all other people searching the forums too.

Yes, you can use the 4g63 oil pan on the 4g64 block. You will have to use your oil pick up tube, and the dipstick holder from the 4g63 also. If you want to use your 4g64 oil pan, you'll have to use the 4g64 oil pick up tube. The pans have different height, this is why you must use the oil pick up tube that matches the pan. :)

Motor mount, not sure, my engine is not in my car yet, or far enough for me to worry about that.

You can use the mount out of the 97 that you already have. It will work fine.

So, you guys are telling me that I can swap everything from my 97 4G63 block, ie., motor mount, oil pump, oil pan, oil pick-up tube, oil dip stick and water pump straight over to a 99 Galant 4G64 block?

Interex, how far out are you from completing the swap?

yes but you will have to get different piston's and headgasket for it

Yeah, I just don't want to be balls deep into a 99 Galant 4G64 and find out I have the wrong block...
I think I'm just gonna hold out for a 98 Galant 2.4L or a 98-99 Spyder 2.4L.

so the ONLY 4g64 blocks that fit right in a DSM are from 98 Galant 2.4L or a 98-99 Spyder 2.4?

or what else?

They will all fit... The problem is that the 2000+ Eclipse 4g64 block is different than the previous version. It's a little taller if I recall correctly. The pistons from a 98/99 4g64 won't work in a 2000+ 4g64.

I have everything to assemble the block, as well as my 1G SBR Stage 6 head with Crower 280s... Just have a lot of other things to deal with right now. I've even been thinking of selling off the entire thing and going towards buying some land/house. :/ I dunno right now.

so basically any 4g64 that was built befor 2000 is what you want then?

that way its like the DSM 4g63's

Well as for the Eclipse anything before 2000 is the right one. As for the Galant, I'm not too sure how far the blocks go, my block is from a 99 Galant and it is the same from the 2G Eclipse 4g64 but the 99 Galant is an 8G and that goes all the way to 2006 so I dunno anything more about the block on the Galant.

Edit: 1994-2003 Galant had the 4g64, so I still dunno if the ones from 2000+ are different like the 2000+ Eclipse.

Hard to believe this has a 4g64 in it...
