He's at it again.
I spent the day helping Ray get his new engine ready to go in the Talon. The turbo is supposed to show up early this week, but he and our mutaual friend "Ninja Mike" (dude is literally a ninja) should be dropping this new mill back into the Talon right now so everything is ready to go when it arrives. I'm hoping he can figure out a way to get to the Shootout, as he's moving back east the week after next. Maybe he'll just show up or something, but I know he's got a lot on his plate for this month...
In any case, I'm gonna miss turning wrenches with my good friend Ray. It's refreshing to be around someone who doesn't just do things the way everyone else does them. Things about this build that will make some people twitch...
- He's using the composite head gasket instead of the MLS.
- He has an SRT4 FMIC on the front of his car that's filled with water.
- He doesn't use DSMlink or a stand alone to tune.
- He daily drives the car with air conditioning.
- He has airplane landing lights mounted to his side mirrors. (It's a rally thing.)
Oh yeah. And he's got 272s in it now too. Last time out twincharged, the car made over 450awhp on a stock 6-bolt, stock head, home made .54trim 18g with twin intercoolers. I hope I get a ride in this beast before he hits the road. Naaaaaaasty.
Finally, for those who are curious, the charge routes like this:
Filter > GT35R compressor > Eaton M62 superchargerin > air-to-water intercooler > throttle body.
So should you be somewhere out east and happen to roll up next to a white 1GB TSi AWD with some "goofy looking" fog lights on the side mirrors, don't even bother. I think Ray said he's looking for 500ft-lbs of torque and, as well as I know Ray, he's going to have most of that before 3000rpm and hold it out until at least 6000rpm.
