Hey guys, i just emailed the guys from dsmlink and got a little bit of an update on the dsmlink v3. its release date is in and around august 2008, and theres lots of changes....new cable, EPROM code, pretty much everything is new i'm told.... they are making it directly integrated with the gm 3 or 3.5" maf...and their not sure yet if its going to be able to run off of a MAP sensor or not. thats all i really know, if any one else has any other info please post thanks!

According to the thread on link forums it will be out this year but they don't give a month. And at first it won't be able to run speed density but they might make an update later. It will include more rpm points to tune at also.

true in the forums here they don't post an actual date, i was just told august by my email reply, but nothing is ever certain thats for sure, i'm hopeing august:)

I think it is going to be the same price if you buy the whole package. If you already have v2 they said it will be less than $200 to upgrade to v3.

Oh sweet. I was worried about having to wait for v3 to get it. But I guess I will just buy it now and then update later.

Anthony

i didn't hear anything about the price, so i'm not sure, probably will be around the same though, and yes should be pretty impressive, i can't wait either!:D

I figured thats why a price drop was made by a supporting vendor.... TOLD YA SO! : )

i'm not sure about the price drop, their saying august but because there is so much code to write their really not 100% sure, so i'm thinking the price drop was just a price drop haha.:)

Personally, I think that taking this long for a software update is pretty much unacceptable. Granted, they are doing a ground up redesign, its all their own R&D, etc. etc., but still, to take this long is just mind-boggling. They never give a solid list of features as to what the new product will have, they keep pushing back dates, etc...I don't know, this whole 'tease' of DSMLink V3 seems awful unprofessional to me. I get the feeling that if another aftermarket company were making quality DSM-specific tuning/logging solutions, this process would have gone a lot quicker. Also, I think a 200$ upgrade fee is pretty steep, especially for someone who just chucked out 545 bucks. I could see if the price of DSMLink V2 declined over time, but they've never given a price drop...so DSMLink V3 is 745$? Or will it cost 545? If I were an existing customer, i'd be pissed, not happily bending over and opening my wallet...i dunno. Maybe it's just me.

That said, I have no doubt they will produce a quality product. They have second to none customer service, but with anything that takes this long, some gripes are to be expected. They've done some great things for the DSM tuning world, and their current product is fantastic. I just don't like the way they run their business.

I don't think a price was actually set, so it could be more or less than $200.

Software development always takes forever, doesn't matter if it's a PHP app or game and pushed deadlines are pretty much the norm. If you've ever programmed anything, then you'll understand where I'm coming from. The DSM community isn't exactly bustling with demand either, so where exactly is the fire? The software works awesome and I'm grateful to even get an update.

You feel this way but you have no idea what they are doing. On link forums they have an up to date thread about v3. They have some features listed that WILL be in v3. And they have some features listed that will be available later on. The cable is what they are waiting on right now. Guess what, somebody else is making the cable, not them. It WILL be out this year. It will be LESS than $200 but there is no specific amount yet. That fee for current v2 users (for 1g not sure about 2g since I don't have one) will include a cable and a new board. You will have to send the v2 board to them and they will send all the stuff once they recieve it. The whole thing should be the same price as v2 if you wait to buy the whole package. Customers are making it take longer also by emailing them or posting on the link forums about it. What are they going to do ignore the customers so it can come out quicker. No. They are going to answer the questions which in turn makes it take longer to make the product.

Another thing that I can figure into the equation is the R&D portion of it. You can't simply just slap the name V3 on it and say it's an upgraded version. With a tuning software, Tom/Dave are playing with the costs of hundreds of $$ motors and car setups, you can't put a product out there that does not work or is prone to failure. The end result of a product that is not 100% optimized can be catastrophic to any user using it, experienced or not.

I have never griped about a product taking too long because the manufacturer wants to make it right. It's the opposite is when the real problems come out. I'd rather deal with 1000 people saying I'm too slow versus 3 guys telling me I'm to blame because DSMLink went nuts during a dyno pull.

This is the biggest balogna. What are the new features? The uber leet MAFT delete code? Weeee... this is just a miniscule addition that doesn't do much except shaft FullThrottleTech out of some money. What other new features are going to be?

They have had WAY MORE than ample time to develop the new software/hardware... the issue is, they're still suckering so many people out of their dollars that there's no reason to release new features when people are still paying HIGH DOLLAR for the feature set that is currently available.

You also said that they're waiting on a cable manufacturer to make the V3 release.... this has nothing to do with software development or the amount of time it takes to make the software. Customers emailing them also does not matter... there's plenty of businesses that develop their products and answer emails in a timely fashion.

This is just bad business practice.

I'm pretty sure they know what their doing, i have to agree with blcknspooln, i'd rather them take as much time as they need to make the right product then to throw it out there and hope for the best, and have a bunch of angry customers when it all goes wrong, and i don't really think its "bad business practice", its not like their a huge company with hundreds of people working on this trying to get it done, their just doing what they can. The price will be great and the finished product will be awsome! anyways thats just my $.2

Wow.......

I think its great they are taking this much time to get everything perfect. If you have problems with them, dont buy their product, its as simple as that. $520 for a complete tuning package is not HIGH DOLLAR, cause you could be paying $1300-1400 for a standalone and you would probably have to have someone tune it....Where as link is user friendly with great support.

If the cable doesnt affect the release date, then why would they even bother have it made....oh ya, thats because the new platform NEEDS the new cable......So basically what your saying is that, it would be good for them to release the software, but not the cable so people could not run it???????right??????

All in all, what good does it do to bi*** about it......oh thats right, NOTHING......

Well... my whole thing is like.... they don't know what features are going to be included yet... which tells me they're not done making the software.... here it is YEARS LATER and they don't know what features will be included? Give me a break. Waiting on cable manufacturers is not an excuse for not knowing the feature set.... and no, it's not a complete tuning tool. You need to buy an eprom and a wideband, not to mention if you're a 1g you'll want a different MAF and most people will want a GM MAF as well (and MAFT if they're not using this glorious v3).... which adds cost in the area of intercooler/intake piping/maf adapter plates to accommodate such a setup.

bling5tatus: I think everyone on this forum now knows that you hate dsmlink. We get the point. Really. Now please stop bitching about how they're taking too long to produce V3. Seriously, what do you care? It's not like you're waiting on it.

OK! either way you put it going with the AEM EMS or a dsmlink both has its ups and downs and everyone will have their own opinions on each, doesn't really matter their both awsome products! If you already have an EPROM in your car, then you don't have to worry about finding one. With the AEM you still need to buy extra GM sensors to make it work, and yes it costs a lot more just for the unit..... SO it just depends which way you want to go. No matter who you are you can't say a company should be working faster to release a product, or be able to say what the product will exactly be able to do for you, its up to the company and weither V3 comes out in august or next spring its going to sell like crazy, because it will kick ass!ROFLLOL again just my $.2

Who cares.......Dont bi*** about the product that you wont ever use.....

You do realize(as mentioned earlier), that ecm tuning needs everything to be perfect considering thousands upon thousands of dsms will probably be running their software.....One thing goes wrong and they will have a lot of pissed of people.....

I mean, Im sure AEM produced their standalone unit with a few weeks...:boring:

But seriously, stop bashing an AWESOME company who is also a SUPPORTING VENDOR....

Back onto topic so this thread does not get locked.........

Maybe they should have just thrown it on the market like M$ did with SP3, which seems to crash almost everything running the .NET framework. Then we could all be sitting around with blown motors because of a coding error. Or every 5 times you start your car, the entire dash turns blue and you have to try again and again just praying that it will start the next time.

Perhaps they could have rushed it out the door and it ended up being a nightmare like Vista.

I find it refreshing to see a company actually perform their own beta testing as opposed to letting it up to the user.

This isn't Burger King, it's not your way right away.
