I am doing a speech for eng. 3 class. I need to ask a few questions. Please answer these without arguing with each other or going off about ricers. I need good information capable of backing up an argument in a class.

What dangers are there in street racing.

What risks do people take, and for what rewards.

If there were a drag strip within an hour of your house would you be willing to drive to it.

How much would you be willing to pay to use a strip for "glory" runs or test & tune days.

Thanks for all of your help.

Dangers: Could hit a person, another car. Even at night you could hit an animal, or you could run out, its common sense really.

risks: Their life! and for bragging rights or money

Drag Strip: no 1 hour is to far

pay: dunno

What dangers?

Death, having your car impounded, wrecking your car...

Risks/Rewards?

Everything listed above plus you run the chance of meeting a bad gang of street racers who can't accept losing and things turn ugly. Rewards are mostly money and being known in the area for having a fast car.

IF there was a drag strip within an hour of my house I might go to it, to see my true 1/4 mile time, but aside from that, racing on the street has a cult feel to it. You head to your spot with your buds and meet up with about 50 other cars. Drag strips seem too formal, IMO.

And I wouldn't pay a damn thing to do glory runs or test and tune days on tracks. Too far, too costly, I can bring my car to TurboTrix and have them do it for me.

Dangers: You could wreck your car, others cars, hit people and other property, tickets, loss of license, ect.

Risks: Trying to race in crowded streets, tailgating, not watching where they are going cause they are looking at the guy they want to race. Most of the time its done for either A) Money or B) Local fame. Most people know which cars are the fast ones in their town or their section of town depending on how big of a city they live in.

There is a drag strip within an hour of my house(well depending on traffic) and I will be hitting it up a few times this summer for test/tune kind of runs. I want to see what I run mostly stock, then what I run with my turbo back exhaust/2g exhaust mani. After that I will be going to improve my launchs and to hang out with friends as they continue to tune their cars.

I think I usually pay around 15-20$ to make all the runs I want on the week nights and then its like 30 for the weekends. Friday nights and Saturday/Sunday there are alot more people there so if you think you are fast and want to show off those are the times to do it other wise they have open runs Tuesday and Wednesday nights where you can run almost as much as you want since there arnt alot of people around. Im not positive about the costs since I havnt had a chance to make it out to GLD yet this year but I will, its alot safer and cheaper than street racing considering a crusing ticket for us is now 75$ and 4pts while a racing ticket is upwards of 200$ and 4-6pts.

Dangers: Wrecking your car or someone elses. Taking your life or somoeone elses. Injuring yourself or someone else. Tickets and legal action. Road Rage.

Risks: Racing in traffic, following too close, agressive lanechanges, split second decisions, purposely fishtailing, speeding thru parking lots.

Rewards: Satisfaction, respect, reputation, money, GROUPIES:D ,friends, enemys, shutups, embarrassments, upsets, taking manhoods, and the rush you get from all of that.

Track within an hour:
I would go but very very rarely. I would only go if it was planned with a group of friends, or there was a very very special event going on. There's a track 10 min from my house and I rarely go. As per GinNBoost I like the cult feel to streetracing. I don't do much actual racing but i love the atmosphere.

Pay for TNT:
Well i have paid $20 but that's too much for my taste. I don't see why $10 isn't good enough.

I didnt ask people to write my paper for me, I had to do a survey to get an opinion of a wide group of people. By posting these questions on several forums, i am getting a wide group of people's opinions. But thanks for all of your help KPW:thumbdown

Street racing is bad, too many risks. But stop light drags, two cars at a red light and floor it on green, just until one is clearly ahead, are fun. But still a little dangerous. I'm a hour away from like 3 tracks, but a hour is kinda far to test and tune, but you gotta do what you gotta do. I guess If you have a really deep industrial area, where no one is at night is a bit safer but still risk your license

well obviously wrecking your car, gettin some serious tickets, insurance rates if you get caught
i agree with the whole cult thing too. but if there was a track, i would go there for a test and tune. and if someone wanted to race me really bad, i've always said bring it to the track, no excuses there, you either win or lose.
$20 ain't bad, but i dont' want to fork it over everytime i go to the track. i dont' think a 1 hr ride is that bad. i used to make the trek to lebanon valley in 2hrs, mostly cause i took the back roads.
plus when you come back from the track everyone (usually) is braggin or happy with how there car performed, that way you get a sense for how fast your car really is, instead of saying, well it SHOULD run low 14s or whatever. you can actually say, my best run to date is 14.109 at 101mph and have proof!

my track only costs $20 for racing enless your in a class/bracket form of racing then its differnt prices. but for tNt its $20 which isnt bad at all considerin that could jack up the price to what ever they want. also i dont know why some of you guys are whining about payin $20 to go race at the track, hell its legal and fun. also it costs millions to build a single track. most of the smaller 1/8mile or crappy set up 1/4 miles cost alot less but the tracks for the NHRA have to be up to spec and it gets pretty pricey. how do you think there goin to make money back? the closest track to me in Englishtownin old bridge, nj. its about a 45min drive with little to no traffic but with traffic might take an hour or more.
