Will 20's fit on an Eclipse? Would you have to roll the fenders and all to get them to fit nicely? Also, what would be the lowest you could drop it?

I don't think 20's will fit due to the suspension piece that runs over the tire. 19's will with the right setup.

What are you guys talking about? Sure, you can run 20" wheels. For example, a 20x8 in a +40mm offset will fit a 2G just fine.

Unless, of course, you were thinking of putting tires on the wheels.

well, anything can fit with the right amount of money. not to be rude, but if i REALLY wanted to, i could put 24" spinners on my ae86, if i had enough MONEY! It is all relative. almost anything is possible with enough money. good luck, and by the way, 19's would look fine. no need for 20's. just my opinion.

Ron -

One of the dangers of those on-line tire-size calculators is that they give you no warning when you're asking for a size that does not exist. Maybe there are some PepBoys Futuras out there in 225/30/20, but no decent tire maker makes anything like this size. This is why I said that he could 20s on, but only if he was going to drive on them "naked."

I think he must know that this would be highly impractical. I just wanted to point out that it might be possible.

You might as well wrap a strip of electrical tape around the wheel.

You're a braver man than I.

I would have been too worried about someone taking this idea seriously and, later, my being sued by his or her grieving family to have posted this.

ps. you need to use really good electrical tape ... not that crap you see on eBay

Well, 19's is what I was originally planning and I knew that 20's would most likely not fit, but this one place has really good prices on rims and thought I would just make sure since the 20's would have been cheaper than the 19's by a couple $100.

Maybe if you can find like a...12 inch lift kit to lift your car high enough so that them "pimp ass phat 20s" you want would actually be completely outside the wheel wells...THEN you could put tires on them too. :thumb:

Why the **** would you want 20 inch tires on a dsm? At that size, you're just asking for extra weight, your speedometer to be TOTALLY confused, your car to ride like a steam engine with no shocks, and not to mention many many other problems, everyone over the age of 13 to laugh their asses off when you "roll by in yo' pimp ass ride."

Exactly. I like the LOOK of 18 inch wheels...but that's about it. They're basically just extra weight after 17. 20 inch wheels...would just be saying "Hey, I'm hip, yo, wanna take a ride in my phat ass wheels, hoe?" In other words, "I know nothing about cars, how to drive them, or how to make them fast. My car is extremely slow, and I want to look like those rich black guys on TV."

PS: I have nothing against African-Americans, however the rich ones do tend to be the ones on MTV cribs with low rider escalades with wheels that wouldn't fit in my trunk-hatch. They're for looks only...and they still look like crap. Don't try to destroy a nice DSM like that. It's designed to be a sports car...not a "lowrider." Sell it and get you a nice Chevy S10. ;)

So... r3dline, let me get this right. You’re saying just because I have 18's I'm a person who would say, "Hey, I'm hip, yo, wanna take a ride in my phat ass wheels, hoe?" I'm not sure about you but I know a pretty good bit about my car and even more about how to drive it. I don't know why you would say that when you yourself said you wish for "Some new 18" wheels" on your profile. BTW the weight of your “phat ass wheels” doesn’t have a giant effect on a car unless it weighs like 50lbs. I'm not trying to flame you man but you gotta think before you speak.
Oh, and I would love to own some of those cars that "those rich black guys on TV" have.

How many lost foot-pounds of torque (or HP, if you prefer) does it take for you to say that some mod had a "giant effect"? I'm not (yet) getting in your face; I'm just trying to understand where you're coming from.

:shhh: I'm not bashing on 18 inch wheels at all. I prefer the look of 18 inch wheels over 17 inch wheels. HOWEVER, in terms of performance, they're not going to improve anything. If anything, the bigger wheel is just going to be a little extra weight. Sure, not enough to effect much if anything, but it's still just a little extra weight, and it's certainly not going to IMPROVE performance. But...regardless, 18" looks really good, and so that's why many of us opt for them.

HOWEVER, I was referring to someone wanting to put 20 inch wheels on a dsm. That's just silly. The sacrifice in price, ride comfort, performance, and the overall hassle of putting 20 inch wheels on a dsm is just so high, it's blantantly obvious that the only reason one would want them on a dsm is just for that...what do they call it..."bling factor?"

And sure, I'd love to have a new Escalade. The first thing I would do, is sell it and buy a nice sports car. I can't help myself. I'd rather have the performance...than the "bling."

Sorry, I thought in my earlier post, I had made it clear that I liked 18 inch wheels but that I was actually talking about the HUGE wheels like the 20 inch wheels and stuff. To put something like that on a little dsm is just silly and down right goofy looking.

But no offense taken. And bare in mind, I'm not trying to flame you either. But just the same, maybe you should read posts a little better before you reply. :thumb:

Naw thats cool man, no offense taken. I get what your saying now. I agree that 20's on an eclipse woundn't look very good on improve performance in anyway. Sorry about the misunderstanding.

Ah no problem. Just a little misunderstanding is all. On the subject of wheels, however, I have a question for anyone who might care to offer some advice.

Since I'm currently running those fugly 14" hub caps, when I put on a set of 17" wheels, is that going to mess with my speedometer much, and if so can it be readjusted to work with the new wheels?

I have a chevy s-10 thats slammed but there is no way I would put 20's on it....they'd #### up the rear (my axle hits frame when I chirp into 2nd and 3rd anyways) and there is no practical way to fit them on the front....

I have 17's on the talon

There was a guy who did this a little while back. He had a white eclipse show car. I believe the guy had to shave some metal off some suspension pieces.
