My car needs new tires. I currently have 205 width tires on stock rims. What's the widest tire that fit on stock rims? I'm thinking 225. Will those fit? Thanks in advance. :thumb: :talon:

Many people have reported using 225's on 6 inch rims and are happy with the setup. The wheel to tire width ratio is outside the 70% rule of thumb though. The tire width is almost 3 inches wider than the wheel!

Would 225 actually hurt the handling? Should I go with 215 instead?

Thanks for the replies. :thumb:

Stock 205 is the max I'd ever go on 6" rims.

Most gains you will see are from actual tire compound improvements, not from having an extra cm of tread.

If you can find 215's it's a good 'happy - medium' - but good luck, not too many tires come in that size. If you are focusing on performance I would find the best 205's you can afford, or get wider wheels...:thumb:

I don't want to spend money on rims, I saw some Kumho ECSTA Supra 712 in 215/55-16 that's only $67 per tire. Are they good? SHould I get them? Thanks. :thumb:

PS: The Khumos' speed rating is W, so it "should" be pretty good?

I wouldn't buy Kumho 712's again unless I was paid by Kumho.

A totally over-rated, crap tire.

I am happy with my 225/50VR16 Eagle GS-C

Looks nice, is an inch wider(layed the old wheels/tires down beside the new ones and measured), and works fine.

That said, I'd go for 8" wide wheels if I had my drothers...

i had 205 40 17 khumo ecsta supras on my mx3 with adr wheels and the general a/s tires hook up better, i dont have any faith in supras at all, buy em for a burnout contest!! thats all
