First off. there should be a breaking tech section.. given the miriad fo upgrade and swap possabilities for our cars..

anywho..

what is everybody running who has upgraded their brakes...

Im looking at the AEM big rotor upgrade.. where you stock calipers and relocate them with brackets (but you can use aem calipers later if you want)

seems to cost beteween 350-450 for a front set but i cant find a site the selles them..

anyway, right now i have aftermarket drilled/slotted brembo rotors (stock size) i got from iritors.com.. they are pretty deacent for only $225 for all 4 rotors i cant complain..

one night i managed to get the front ones GLOWING red and after letting them sit a few i drove along normal.. no warping..

oh yea, using bendix semi metallic pads..

Hello Wobble.
I tried visiting the iritors.com website you posted but it's dead.

Could you confirm the link please?

Thanks, I am in the market for stock sized slotted rotors for my '91 TSi AWD.

I was wondering why people always want to go really big when talking about their brakes ? I fully understand that a bigger rotor has more of a friction surface thus helping disipate the heat , because thats what all big brake kits do is better handel the heat right. Well I found that just by changing the stock rubber lines to steal braided lines was a huge improvement (because that heat the brakes produce could worpe the rubber lines or the lines could expand by repeated breaking (autocross).
In the same time period I also changed the break fluid to dot four fluid ( wich has a higher boiling temp) and swapped the brakes for gold line performance break pads.To top it all off I picked up four solid, vented and slotted rotors for about $250 including tax (stock size all around).
In the end I spent about $580 canadian to upgrade my entire brakeing system and im fully happy with it , I did alot of mountain racing this past summer over in hamilton and boy let me tell you I felt the difference .

Wobble,

The AEM kit is okay but doens't come with brake pads, just caliper kit and pistons.

I found a great brake upgrade for 2/3rds the cost and comes with pads. It is the DSS 11 inch upgrade, definately enought to help stop you alot quicker but comes with everything too. Check it out:

seems like all it is the the 3kgt brakes, and rotors.. over 600 bux.. thats kinda steep.. yikes.

$565 and comes with the caliper pistons, bigger upgraded rotors, pads and all mounting hardware, as opposed to just rotors and mounting hardware, didn't seem too bad to me......

depending on which car do you have, all FWD and 90-92 AWD have the smaller brakes, upgrading to factory big brake kit helps a great deal and sometimes you can find used calipers online and then just get the brembo blanks and any pad would do a great deal in improving your brakes, the ss lines and good brake fluid helps too, don't bother w/ the AEM shxt, that's just parts for the bling factor, not worth the money, if you want some good rotors, go w/ powerslot, and get porterfield pads if you think you really need that much braking power, but you should make sure you got the right suspension setup and good tires if you want to stop better,

Maybe you should also check the DSMTuners.com Parts Catalog, it has a list of vendors. Also
Road Race Engineering sells AEM Brake Kits
