Bay Area,
hey guys, i took the axle, it was a pita, but it came out easily finally LOL.

anyways, yeah i see my ball joint popped out. you can see the ball out of the coupling or whatever you may call it.

i need to know, how to put it back together with the lower control arm? it's seperated right now, and im trying to figure out how does it stay in there? i removed the dust cover off of it just so i have more room to work with or whatever, but there's a nut on top of the ball joint part, what does that nut do?

and im trying to figure how does that ball stay in that area it's suppose to stay in and not pop out again like it did. i know it's probably not pressed in there, but what actually connects that part (ball joint) to the lower arm?

please let me know asap guys, trying to get this done soon, i know you probably have to put the new axle then lower the car and put the cars weight on the joint so it can lock it maybe? well that's what i figured, but i need info asap, thanks guys!

You need to replace the ball joint. It should not have poped out like that. If you try to fix it it will pop out while your driving down the road.

replace that ball joint, they arent suppose to fall apart on you. you can either do a couple of things, replace the ball joint with a quality one from moog and either use an air hammer or press to remove the old one and install the new one or buy a complete new control arm with ball joint already installed from the dealer which means money!!

Check and see it your vehicle is under recall for ball joints.

That nut on the ball joint connects behind the rotor somewhere. I know this because i had a mechanic replace my ball joint and he didnt put that bolt on tight enough. he didnt put it into the nylon and guess what happened? my tire fell off!!! he payed for it and i would have died if it would havent fallen off my parents dirt road. So get that stuff replaced.

yeh...the ball joints aren't supposed to fall out like that, I just replaced both my lower control arms on the pass. side because I got into a little accident with a hill. But yeh...the Lower control arm and lateral arm come with the ball joint in them, it is part of the arm and doesn't come seperately and as far as I know, you can't just get a new one.

Hopefully for you only one of them fell out. The straight, lateral arm, is around 40-50 from the dealer...the lower control arm, with the curve in it is $200...but then, if your recal hasn't been done yet, you probably just have to get your car to the dealer and it will hopefully be replaced free of charge.

Just a quickie: On the straight one's, that's WITH the ball joint/bootie, right?

yeh...if your asking me...the lateral arm (straight one) and the LCarm actually both have the ball joint in a boot.

On a side note, they also come with new bushings installed...

thanks guys, im about to call the dealer tomorrow, i hope they do that shit for me for free and shit, i don't feel like wasting 200 or more dollars on this shit LOL.

peace yall, by the way, i'll let you know guys what happens in a couple of days, thanks for the coo info yall, peace!

Rawk. Thanks. I'm getting my right balljoint replaced today, and just wanted to know the approximate cost.

Well i called the dealer's today, and they said i HAD to bring it in, so they can look up the VIN number to see if it has the recall, i was like, man, what happens if it happens not to have the recall, i towed it here for nothing! But they said it had to be here, so if they do say yes, it will be cool, i hope 95's had the recall, which they probably do cause of all the post's i have read so far. So i'll see in a couple of day's if it works out, peace

won't they let you tell them the vin# over the phone...if they wont, call another dealership and ask them to look it up for you.

Your vin# is in many places on your car. One would be all the way at the front of the dash, visible from outside the car through the windshield and on the drivers side.

Another place is where you open the door...not on the door but on the body.

Those are probably the easiest places to find it. And yeh...you DON'T have to bring in your car...just tell them the vin over the phone and ask them if it shows if the recall has been done.

Heck, you could call the dealer I went to. They took my VIN over the phone and told me it was under recall and to bring it in. Let mne know if you need a number.

i dont know if there is a difference with turbo and N/A recalls, but i brought my car to Shelton Mits. and they called me before they did any work on my car and said " oh by the way your ball joints are shot but its ok cause they are under recall. so we'll just take care of that too, ok?" and i was like hell yeah. so i think you will be fine.

far as i know the recall is all 2g's
and no - ya cant just replace a ball joint. you have to get the entire arm.
( i been there dont that ) and odds are it will be a dealer only item.

just heard news from the dealer...

uhm, the dealer said it had to contact mitsu headquarters to be givin a yes or no answer about working on my car at the dealer, they found that my car is lowered (LOL), damn i knew this was going to happen, i just hope they say yes! damnit, anyone experience this at the dealers? lmk thanks
