Hattiesburg,
Not too long ago I posted about a problem I was having with an uneven drop on an Eibach Pro Kit. Just the rear driver's side was about a 1/4-1/2" lower than the rest of the car, and it's rubbin the hell outta my tire. Well, I've decided to go ahead and get some Ground Controls. The only reason I'm goin with adjustable springs is to raise that one side up to match the rest of the car and stop the rubbing. My question is this......with the car dropped between 1"-1 1/2", would the ride be fairly decent if I went with some KYB GR-2's or Tokico HP's? Or should I just suck it up and pay the money for some AGX's or Illuminas??? Thanks.

Dave

On a lowered car, you'll have the best ride and handling with Koni SAs. The reason is on the H&R Race Springs thread: viz., Koni Yellows are shorter than any other off-the-shelf shock, so you have a better chance of staying off the bump-stops.

The ride is fine. I have 500/450 springs and Koni Yellows. Of course, what I call fine and what you call fine might differ.

Did you ever consider that you have a blown shock and that is why you ride lower on one part of your car? Is there anything that is weighing that particluar part of your car down? I just think that you have a really strang problem and that there is more at work here than just you springs.

I'm not sure what you're asking. If you want to know if you can run GC coil-overs with non-adjustable shocks, then the answer is yes. It's not anything close to optimal, since off-the-shelf non-adjustables will not have the rebound damping needed to control a decent set of springs, but it can be done.

If your question is why your car sits crooked on the ProKits, then it comes down to three things: (1) the spring sagged [easy to check], (2) the shock lost it's pressure or is blown [not quite as easy to check without fancy equipment, but you can get an idea], or (3) either the car is crooked or the spring perch or hat in that corner is misplaced. Have you checked all three of these?

I've switched the springs from side to side and it's exactly the same; checked the shock and it's fine; and I'm not exactly sure how to check and see if the perch is misplaced. I've had a friend helpin me out with my suspension that does this kind of work for a living and he's a little confused too. Is there a write up on how to check for this? (I know it's probably somethin simple as hell, but I'm still a newbie when it comes to suspension). Any help is greatly appreciated.

The spring perch is whatever the spring sits on. Measure the distance from the perch to the eye of the bolt that holds the lower end of the shock to the wheel spindle. Make sure that this distance is the same on the two sides. Then look at the top end of the springs. Are the rubber seats the same distance down from the frame?

If all of this checks out, then I guess you should make sure that your sway-bars aren't bent and causing the skew. Easiest way to do this is to just disconnect them and see if the stance changes. (Sway-bars should do nothing when the car is just sitting there.)

After that I'd start to wonder if the frame is bent. Are you the first owner? If so, how many curbs have you run over? If not, have you ever run a CarFax on it?

That's about all I can think of.

i had the exact same problem with my car with eibach prokit, my driver side Front was WAY lower and very noticable that it was out of wack... i checked all the shocks and they seemed ok, nothing dirty around them, sprung out ok, but it turned out i replaced all my shocks with AGX and it stood normal FINALLy, i was so relieved. I would try getting a new shock.

Yeah, that was #2 on my list of suggestions. Shocks are side-to-side symmetrical, so he can test this idea by swapping them. Otherwise, it takes a shock-dyno to really test them.
