Just wondering how or if I can remove the heavy ugly bulky abs crap from my first gen talon.
Thanks

There's a writeup on it at VFAQ.com I did it to my car and it wasn't the hardest thing I've done. It saved about 20 pounds including most of the wires and wheel sensors. It's wierd looking into the engine bay now, the motor mount and the tranny are right there! I'm almost looking forward to doing another clutch job!

if you are taking a car to auto-x, somewhere like scca or whatever it's called, or just like to take turns wrc style, it's better to have no ABS. I don't really like ABS myself but it saves retarded people from locking up their brakes.

I think im going to ziptie the little abs keys that go into the hub onto the spring and leave it at that with mine.

ABS has been banned from a number of sanctioned racing bodies because it is too good.

You (human beings, that is) cannot brake better than the ABS system can, unless you can somehow regulate and figure out each individual wheel speed and pump time.

i think the vfaq is dead, but not sure... anyways i found this, hope it helps only took 10 minutes to do some searching...

From what i know, you will need to find a non abs car. FWD or AWD and just get the front lines and proportioning valve, the back lines are the same from what ive read

Just did the ABS delete on my 1g.

You will need the following:

1G non-ABS Prop valve
1G non-ABS lines to the front brakes

It's a PITA if you have the intake manifold on the car and the cruise control attached. I removed cruise control so it made it alittle easier to get to the prop valve.

Hey thanks AWDnoobie I seriously couldn't find it and had to bring this thread back from the grave, now its bookmarked forever haha. Infact I think this should be written up in the tech articles here. Anyways just about everything is removed from my car except the engine/intake so it shouldn't be too bad.

I have a spare 1g non-ABS prop valve if anyone needs one. Just PM ME.

Not to go too far off topic, but has anyone ever tired a different proportioning valve? Say like one from Jegs or Summit? you might have to make new lines or modify the old ones to work, but it could be done

Hmm dont remember exact pricing but somewhere between 7 and 10 for each one, youll need four total, and for bending you can use a brake line bender or your hands if you are very careful. I happened to have a bender lying around but they can be a PITA in tight spots so i used my hands to make some small adjustments. I also had a non-abs prop valve from a friend and the engine was out of the shell when i tackled this job, oh and you dont need to change the rear brake lines they stay in the same spot but have fun getting the fittings to come off of the old prop valve without stripping them g/l.:rocks:

So I only need TWO lines not all four from the linky how-to correct?

Edit: Nevermind I just removed the whole system and I get it now. Just need lines to the front brakes and 2 to the master cylinder thing.

you need the 2 lines that go from the master cylinder to the proportioning valve as well as the ones that go from the proportioning valve to the front wheel wells.

If you were creative, you could easily re-use all the stock stuff. All you need to do this job really is a nice bending tool, metric flare kit, and the non-abs prop. valve. I've done 2 1g abs deletes this way and it works great. Cheap too.

got plenty of proportioning valves sitting around pm me if any one needs one,i may just put it up in the classifields

Yeah I actually had to reflare the rears because they wouldn't come out from the prop valve :ohdamn: And ran new lines from the front brakes and the master cylinder. I used that 'green' line and it works great :thumb: it was so easy to use.
