i called about some wheels that i want, and the sales associate told me that the tires that come with it wont work for my talon  they are 205/40/17 is this true, or is he trying to sell me some more expensive tires?

i have 16's with 225/50/16 on there now?

all these tire numbers tend to confuse the sh!t out of me

Here's how they size things: Let's take my tires for example: 235/40/17

Tire width: 235 mm The actual width of the tire in millimeters.

Aspect Ratio = 40%. This means how tall the tire is compared to the width. So my tire is 40% of 235mm which is 94mm in height.

Wheel size: 17 inches. The final number is for how big the wheel is. I'm sure you can figure that out.

225mm is WAY too wide for the stock shitty wheels as is. Sure, you can fit a 235 width tire on the stock rims if you're lucky, but it's going to have so much buldge... Even more than what you have now, which is excessive.

17 inch tires on 16 inch wheels tend to rattle a bit, and keeping them inflated is problematic.

i didn't know 225 was too wide for the 16's i have. oh well hopefully will be getting new tires/ rims

Who said 225 was too wide for 16's? What we are saying is 205/40 will throw off you rolling diameter too much. Either 225/45 or 235/45 will be fine. I personally went with 235 to have a nice wide tire. I had 225/50's on my stock 16's.

225 is too wide for a 6" rim to not have a big buldgy sidewall and lots of sidewall rollover.
