I have heard from a few other DSM owners having problems with loosing their brakes on cars equiped with ABS. Just curious if anyone hear has experienced this problem and weather you love the ABS or hate it.
I just purchased a 92 TSI with ABS. The car needs a motor and I was thinking while the motor was out I would convert to a non ABS brake system from another TSI parts car I own because of some of the horror stories I have heard. I would love to keep the ABS if this is just isolated cases, but brakes are really important to me so I would like to hear from other DSM owners. BTW: when I say they lost their brakes, I was told the pedal went to the floor and did not stop the car untill the tree or whatever did. Thanks for the help.

I can only reply with a statement of, I love my NON-ABS system. I feel alot safer with these for the weather up here. You should be just fine with the type of weather you get in FL. Damn, I envy you guys about now--->March!!! LOL

I would just do what you are wanting to do!

Good luck in everything!

This doesn't sound to me like an ABS-related failure, but rather a master cylinder failure. If you have any links, I'd be keen to read up on the situations.

I have ABS on my 94 and 95, and wouldn't go to the bother of removing it. However, I don't have a vacant engine bay and parts-on-hand to influence my decision.

I think ABS is great on rainy days, they get some good storms in FL. When my ABS light comes on I still have good braking, just no ABS. BTW our roads are wet 50% of the time from Dec-Apr.

Cool, thanks for the input guys. I too feel the problems I am hearing about were not related to the ABS system. I think I will keep it on the car. Thanks again.
