I get a shake in my steering wheel when cruising down the highway, but ONLY between 45-50mph, it isn't a really bad shake, but I can tell it is there. I also get a bad shake through the steering wheel when I hit the brakes at higher speeds (about 70+mph). Back when this first started I thought i must have warped rotors or something, but I have replaced all 4 rotors and brake pad sets and it still does the exact same thing. I can hit the brakes below 70mph and I don't even get the slightest hint of a shake, but above that it will shake the steering wheel like crazy. I have a CV joint that will pop every once in a while when my steering wheel is turned sharply to one side or the other, but would a CV joint going bad cause a problem like this? Any ideas of what the prob could be?

try getting your wheels balanced or a 4 wheel alignment check your tire wear see if anything is wrong with that etc. just look through it all

Yes, do as Jason said and get the alignment and balance pronto. This is often the culprit if the brakes aren't to blame (are they cheap rotors though?). Also, that popping is, umm, not good. You probably have a torn CV boot and crap is getting in, i would suggest immediately replacing that axle (could also be part of the problem) before the Wheel FALLS OFF!!!! I've heard of it happening so its no joke.

I got under my car tonight and double-checked both the inner and outer cv joint boots on both axles and all of the boots are in perfect condition with no cracks... however I still hear a "pop" whenever turning into driveways or entrances that are on an incline. So I thought maybe it was the balljoints, but I went by Mitsubishi and they said that the recall had already been performed on my car. The only thing that i did notice when inspecting the axles is that I could grab the inner cv joint (where it goes into the tranny) on either side and move it slightly in and out with my hand on both axles... it didn't move very much, just a fraction of an inch. Is this normal? Aside from torn boots what else is there to check to see if an axle is bad?
When I was jacking the car up I heard a "pop" noise as well, so could my suspension actually be what is popping? Would a bad shock do something like this?

do you have coilovers??? my friends neon does it (makes a creeking/popping sound) when he turns the wheel, may be the cause of it, try putting more dampeners in or changing where they are.

I don't have coilovers, just the stock suspension.

I had some warranty work done about a month ago, and one of my problems was a popping sound from the front right wheel. Mitsu told me the joint was fine, but it needed sealant or something. The service ticket showed a joint repack/seal, and it's been fine ever since.
