coilovers

I was wanting to buy coilovers and i wanted to know what actually they do. do they give a smoother ride or are they just used to drop the car. can i use them on my stock shocks too. if anyone can help me on this it would be appreciated.

Coilovers help you adjust the ride of the car to your liking and with most coilovers the springs are stiffer and reduce body roll which will make the car handle better. The ride will always get worse as you lower the car but if you get a nice set of struts it shouldnt be to big of a problem.
