If I plan on using my car for Time Trials (Autocrossing) and Drag Racing... is upgrading my brakes a good investment considering I have a budget and a lot of it is being consumed by the complete overhaul of my car. I just bought a 90 AWD TSI and am looking at where I should invest my money (Needs engine rebuild, interior, paint job, some mods).

Is going with a 92-94 Brake setup a huge improvement from what I have now? Or should I buy Slotted rotors and where can I get them...

My budget is about $300-$400 for the brakes if I need to do anything to them.

Any advise/suggestions and links to buy are appreciated.

How long are your "time trial" autox runs?
The stock 90-91 brakes can stop your car well at low speeds, but from high speeds the rotors don't have enough mass to take the heat.
If you can afford it I would do the 93 brakes with good pads (I prefer porterfield R4S) and stainless lines.
Slotted rotors are not needed.

I say upgrade especially for auto-X. I would also consider a short throw shifter because I hear the '90 had a huge throw.

What exactly would I need to take off a 92-94 car to upgrade my brakes? Disks, Calipers, what else?

Any good places to get a decent short shifter kit for a 1G?

Any feedback on a good place to get a Short Sifter kit for my '90?

yea the 90 being the odd ball it is, is different so short throws dont fit on them all the time. i just have a shorter shift knob, you could also get a momo or something and just cut yours down and use the little screws that come with it to put it on that way. have fun

Another good brake mod is to get a set off a 3000gt or a Stealth "NON TURBO". or even a Diamante.. you will need the rotors... the calipers and the arm that attaches the calliper to the spindle. Othe than that it works fun and they fit under stock wheels too
