I've always thought that the sidewall on the stock rims/tire combo was too high. 205-50-16 is one step down from 205-55-16, but will it leave a bad wheel gap? Does anyone run this size? I picked up some 97+ 5 spoke 2g rims for my 92 GSX and I'm in the market for tires.

If the wheel gap would be too ugly I'll just stick with the 205-55-16. I'm not going to lower the car.

Old thread but I had a similar question.
I hate the fat 205/ 55/ 16 size tire. I was in the market for tires so I'm track drag ready and daily driving. Will 205/ 50/16 be okay for my car and power. I know that stock is 55mm instead of 50? Any inputs or anyone running this size on their turbo eclipse. Im thinking it wouldn't be any problems, maybe gain a little more wheel spin due to the smaller tires.
Good reviews and everything. I have experience with Kumho which I like. Then falken 615, too loud for dd. And then yokohoma s drive. Quite and nice but no traction. Tires i'm getting are here
Bridgestone Potenza RE760 Sport

I wouldn't mess up the size for dd unless you were going to adjust your speedometer. Part of why I got my seeding ticket is because a previous owner put bigger tires on my integra. In your case you will go slower with smaller tires.

I would put on some 225/50/16's just to give a little more meat. It would be about the same overall height so your speedometer wouldn't be off and you would have more of a contact patch, all while not looking funny and showing too much gap. In fact I think it fills it a little nicer and looks badass.:D

I've got 225,45,16's and they are pretty awesome, no change in the speedo at all.

225/50/16 would be .8" wider yet almost the exact same diameter (actually .02" smaller) as the stock 205/55's. That would be the closest that you are going to get without affecting the speedometer. Keep in mind that the tire sidewall would still be the same, it would just be wider.

A 225/45/16 would have almost a full inch (.91") less diameter, which will effect your speedometer a few MPH. It would be just as wide as the 225/50 but not match the stock wheel diameter. The best way to get less sidewall without effecting the speedometer is to get a larger rim and matching tire.

Here is a great tire calculator which compares 2 sizes at the same time. This is a very handy tool when comparing tire widths and diameters. Tire Wheel Size Comparison Conversion Calculator - Metric Standard

Hope this helps!

LOL I never knew that they made that size, but I just checked tirerack and they have 4 different kinds that are that size. They are a bit pricier than the 225/50/16's though. The 45's range from $125-226 while the 50's start at like $67 and there are many more options.

Thanks for the info though dsmrollerz90.:)

Here's a 205/50/16 on a stock suspension. It was not appealing.

Upgrade to 17s and you will get a 50 profile.

17s is more suitable on 1G or 2G's I think, especially for looks,

^^ Thanks man. Help made up my mind! Post marked as helpful people!
So 225/50/16 it is

If I read the thread correctly, the OP said they got a set of stock GST 5-spoke wheel which are 16x6.
I really doubt 225's will fit on a 6 inch rim.
Or did I miss the width of the rim somewhere?

According to BFGoodrich's website, 225/50/16's are recommended for a 6"-8" wheel (I'm looking at the specs for the G-Force KDW tires as that's what I run).

The only way that you can reduce your sidewall and to also maintain your similar speedometer and wheel gap will be to upgrade to a 17 inch rim. I run 215/45/17 Falkens on my car and it gives a great look with a decent amount of sidewall.
