2-Piston vs. Baer Brake Upgrade

I wanted to get some opinions on real world performance of the factory 2-piston caliper upgrade vs. the Baer Track kit. I have a 1992 AWD Talon with the single piston calipers, so anything will be an improvement. I've seen threads about how well the Baer kit works, but is there a significant difference compared to the factory 2-pistons?

I use my car as a daily driver, and for a few autocrosses and dragrace outings. The 2-piston factory kit can be had for as cheap as $445 from Victory performance, and the Baer kit for around $750. If the factory upgrade is not sufficient, would powerslot rotors and metal master pads make them that much better?

I'd like to be able to stop well at the autocross and not have any brake fade.

GEt the factory kit, it will be more than adequate for auto-x and dragracing.


If you were doing more open track/ roadcourse stuff, then you would probably need the Baer Brake kit


(if you just like the look of big rotors and calipers, then Baer kit of course)

If you don't mind a little work you can find the dual piston calipers at junk yards for as little as $35 each. Clean them up, replace the seals and there as good as new.

Boy do I wish that was true around here. It seems like poeple just know, even if they are someone who knows nothign about dsm's or 2 pistons...etc, any brakes from even a base model dsm/3si out here, owners want way to much. I asked and oen guy wanted 250$ for the pair of just calipers

Anyhow, I agree that with some nice like zinc plated (maybe slotted also) dual piston rotors with some EBC pads is a really nice settup. It is a definet noticable upgrade is for the most part, enough brake most people will need. However I dont think I would pay more than 400$ for a full kit. Id find something used. If you are going to sepdn that much id just look for a used "real kit" and spend another 150$ or so

one of the reasons i bought my DSM was because it came with 2 piston fronts.

all i did was upgrade the rotors, pads and brake lines. it now stops right when i want it too. so if you upgrade to 2 piston front, you will notice the difference.

ask around from some of the locals in your area. you'd be suprised how fast parts pop up when more than 1 pair of eyes are looking.

Not to intrude, but for our cars, EBC stuff is crap. You might as well use the stock stuff.

Stick with Porterfield or Metal Masters.

where can I get pads for the 3000GT brakes that are better than stock ones? Any suggestion on what to look for?Metal masters there too or...?

Im curious as to why you think EBC are no good for "our" cars? Maybe you had a set taht didnt work out for you, or maybe something was wrong elsewhere but in my experience they have been great!

I said metal masters because they're a cheap stock alternative.

EBC's have a known reputation among anyone who drives their brakes hard in the DSM community as "instant dusting" properties.

Porterfield's aren't that much more and they're so much better of a brake pad.
