I currently have R1 race coilovers and tokico blues on my 99 GS but i've been hearing alot of stuff about how coilover will blow out these struts. I only have the coilovers adjusted about halfway (so a 2 inch drop) is this going to blow out these struts? The people from the race shop i got them from said it wouldn't but on here i've been hearing nothing but that it will blow them out soon. So i'm thinking about getting some sprint sport springs (2" drop) if the coilovers aren't good for my struts will these work out fine?

i have sprint springs and tokico illuinas, no probs yet, i like it a lot. its nice and low but not so low you cant drive it

the reason they may blow is because the spring rate is too soft. if the springs can't handle the job the shock forced to do it, and thats not good.

i've seen cars on 550lb spring rates slam off the bumb stops. i'd imagine the stock r1 springs are about 250ish. think about it.

alright cool. whats a good spring rate to have for the tokico blues? And also what companies make cool coilover springs. They are different than the regular lowering springs right? Like the R1 coilover springs are a TON smaller than the lowering springs i've had on previous cars. And about how much would it run for a new set of stiffer coilover springs?

i run eibach springs on ground controls. 550lbs front and 450lbs rear spring rates. i know alot of people running this set up actually, afew on tokicos.

you can order directly from eibach, its about $70-$80 for a pair of springs. all you have to do is figure out the size you need to fit the coil over your gonna run. or when you order yor coil overs, specify the spring rate upfront.

you will also need to get upper shock bushings. for a basic run down on suspension and what works check out the dsm autocross homepage.

k cool thanks a ton. Do you know where on the eibach site that they have their coilover springs? Cause i was searching but couldn't find it. Also when i hit a bigger bump or large pothole in the road in the front i feel kinda bang, nothing really bad but just a small jolt. Is this the strut bottoming out? Or is it just the stiffer suspension reacting different to poor road conditions?

thats your upper mount slamming off the bump stop. if you dont have a bump stop, thats the shock bottoming out.
