My set of 3sx rear control arms just arrived at my house. So hopefully I can get them on the car this sunday and correct my camber issues.

For removal. I think it was either a 17mm or 19mm for the all the nuts and bolts. Knocked the outside loose with a impact wrench separated it with a pickle fork. The inside nut/bolt is an eccentric camber bolt I couldn't tell which side was the nut, so do not over torque the wrong side or you could damage the camber bolt.

For installation. Grease the outside joint with a grease gun before install. I attached the inside with the camber bolt and adjusted it all the way in. This ensures no further inward movement is possible when under load. There is more than enough outward adjustability in the control arm. The outboard connection I just tightened the nut until I could insert the cotter pin and called it good.

I hope this helps anyone interested in this. I wanted to do a proper writeup but it was part of my EVO suspension install and was more concerned with getting all that work done in time and my car up and running again.

Are you talking about with the grease fitting on the side of the ball joint? or just grease the top of the ball joint and move the ball joint around to get the grease around?

Ouch, that's what I get for not getting on here anymore. There is only one grease fitting. I just pumped it until it started coming out the boot. The heim joint doesn't have any way to fill it with grease, you don't want to do that anyways. Just to note, no issues with these parts despite a winter full of driving mountain passes.

I got the same set. They work great and are really easy to adjust

You guys are using these in your 1G AWD cars, right? 3SX Adjustable Rear Control Arms

I want to oder a set for my '90 GSX, but I need to know if these are the exact ones you guys have been using. They were designed for the 3000GT and Stealth, but I guess they are a direct fit to our 1G AWD. Are any modifications of extra hardware needed to use these? Any information would be helpful.

TIA

You'll need to reuse the eccentric bolts and nuts (one set on each side). Other than that it'll bolt right in no problem. Also make sure you use the grease fitting and grease the ball joint side. IT'll make life much easier while installing also.

I made a write up on rear upper control arms in the tech section. There is also a write up at Mitsubishi Galant VR-4 Forum - E39A 4G63. .If you check out the do it yourself. The E.BAY control arms,it will give you part # and how to do it yourself. If I had these part # I would have use the outer ball joint instead of the 3/4 heim joint. If you check out my rear lower tubular control arms I used the outer ball joint on them. The article on GalantVR4.org they say you can build you own upper control arms for half the price of the 3 SX control arms

Yeah I saw your write-up it would be nice to make your own. But i don't have a lathe (i do have access to one though:hmm:). Plus I was under some crucial time restraints putting the car back together so while i was waiting for these come in i was dropping in my motor, installing ss lines for brakes/clutch, fixing my trans problem and trying to tune LOL.

could you possibly get a measurement for me? I want to make my own, if you could get me a measurement of just the bar, not the heim joint or the tierod.

Thanks, ben

Do you mean reuse the factory hardware when installing these adjustable rear upper control arms? Thanks, i saw this thread after i asked a question in another one on the same topic but this addresses my concern better.

Like previously stated, you only reuse the eccentric bolt and nut. They're the hardware furthest from the wheel used to mount the camber bar to the car/frame and make small camber adjustments with the stock bars. The other end of the 3S camber bar with the tie-rod end mounts to the wheel knuckle using the supplied nut and cotter pin.

Don't worry, you don't need to purchase anything more than the camber bars themselves. Don't forget to grease the tie-rod end, as they don't come pregreased.
