Will Mustang wheels fit?...

I'm looking at getting some 17x8 wheels for my eclipse. Has anyone tried running mustang wheels? Will 245's fit on my eclipse w/o rubbing issues and without a need for fender work? I just got the eclipse this weekend, but ground control coilovers/tokico illumina's are on the way. Anyone using 17x8? I am an autocrosser/road course guy and only go out to a drag strip a couple times a season. Will there be rubbing issues during high speed cornering? 245's are the widest tire I can get without being bumped out of STX. If anyone is using 17x8, what is their tire set-up?

why do you want 17'? go for 15's or 16's if your big into autox.. get some good tires, and youll rule..

There was a discussion about running Mustang wheels a while back on the dsm-autox list, and someone there had a cheap hookup for hubcentric rings for mating up Mustang wheels as a cheap source of wheels for our cars. Here's the link to the group:

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/dsm-autox

The application in question was to run 17x9 Mustang wheels on an Eclipse:

Personally, I'd probably be looking at 16" forged wheels (and as wide as I could wedge in the wheel wells) for serious auto-x use, but to each their own.

Hope this helps!

Thanks for the help. When I go to those links I don't find anything, but I registered to become part of the group so hopefully once my registration is accepted I can find what you are talking about.

If I was looking solely at wheels for an autocross purpose I would be considering smaller ones, but I'll have to admit I am also interested in making the car look nice. Why do I feel ricey when I say that? I guess its hard for a VW guy to go japanese without constantly worrying about doing something ricey. Basically I would like the 17's because they will look a little better than the 15's or 16's, and it would be nice if I could fit all that rubber under there without rubbing. If not I will probably look into 17x7.5 with 225 width tires because I'm sure I've seen other guys running those.

(Oh yeah, forgot that you can't browse the dsm-autox messages until you've signed up. Sorry about that; you can join in "No email" mode, so you can just browse the group online, if you don't want to receive the list.)

As far as size goes, I just bought 17x7 wheels, so I shouldn't say much. ;) It was a tossup between those and a set of similarly-weighted 17x7.5 wheels, both of which mate up nicely. 17x8s should work fine too, but they were priced a little more than I was willing to spend just now. Before looking at the Mustang wheel offerings which might require some work, take a look at Rota and ADR/RS Limited, or at Racing Hart, et al if you have a little more money to spend (you're a 5x114.3mm bolt pattern w/45mm offset from the factory). Hit www.whalentire.com, www.wheelmax.com, www.tirerack.com, and www.discounttiredirect.com for a few first stops.

(If I'd had the money to go with two sets, I'd have gone with a set of forged 16s for auto-x/drag, and a set of 18s for daily use, but it's hard to justify that kind of cost when I've got other more basic performance upgrades to do first. So, middle ground.)

I run 245/45/16 Kuhmo's for autocross on 16x8 rims with a +32 offset. Make sure whatever rim you look into, you know the offset of the rim. This will tell you what the max tire size you can run on it.

For instance, a 17x7.5 with a +42mm offset would be able to run anything more than a 225/50 comfortably, however the same size rim running +35mm offset can run 245/45 with no rubbing. Offset is critical.

Also another factor is the tire choice. For instance Kuhmo V700 Victoracers in 245/45/16 are actually narrower than 245/45/16 Hoosiers and hence becomes a factor when figuring in rim offsets.

The good thing about the 17x9 mustang rims is that they come with a +29 mm offset I believe. This allows a significantly wider tire to be used.

Thanks for the sites. I've checked out Whalentire before but wheelmax is a new one. I have been considering Rota Subzeros but see that the ADR RS Limited Trama look very similiar. The ADR's are 17x7, compared to the 17x7.5 available with Rotas.

logic-
apologies for messing with your car, but I fixed that rear wheel's look. Which I guess is moot if you just got new ones.....

Well its not like Im trying to convince you to get the same wheels as me, but they are cheap, light and pretty wide;) :p They are the 5 zigen Pro N1's from Black racing... they weigh 17lbs and are 17x7.5 w/ a 40mm offset. I run 225/45 Khumo's on them and it works great for me:thumb:

Those are some nice looking wheels. I'll definitely consider those. I think the Rota's are about a lb less, for what that matters.

Are mustang wheels going to be heavy? I was kind of thinking they would be relatively light, but could be way off. With an offset of 30 do you think they may work? Would I need adapters or any kind of hub work for a 17x8 wheel? I know that link was showing how they did it for a 17x9, but would it be necessary for 17x8 also? Sorry for all the questions. I will probably end up going with the rotas, but still think some powdercoated mustang gt rims would look pretty sweet and it would be nice to get those 245's under there.

id get some 16's since they can be much lighter than 17's(ex. rota slipstream and circuit 8's), and id guess the stang wheel prolly weigh in at 28+ lbs each.. because the Mustang Roush wheels(17x8) wheels weigh 26.5 lbs each.. all i could find..

wow, i definitely wouldn't want the mustang wheels if they are weighing in at that much. I wish the slipstreams came in 16x8, I have had my eyes on those also.

I run 235/40/17 Yokohama's on a 17 x 7.5 rim with 40 or 44 mm offset (don't recall off hand) on my 2G GSX.

I have absolutely zero rubbing issues with steering wheel lock and no sidewall buldge.

Hi does any one know if I can fit my wheels from my DSM to my 1995 mustang V6????

Thanks Defiant, the reason I want to put those wheels in my mustang is because my mustang's tires are Bad, and I mean Bad, and I took off those wheels with tires from My DSM, because I replaced them with a nicer set of wheels and tires, I was just wondering if I could being the fact that those wheels are sittin' there on the corner you know, :D
thanks :thumb:

Will 2001 Mustang Cobra wheels fit on a 1G with 245/45/17 tires on? I know the tire isn't an issue as I have them on right now but on a 6.5" rim.:coy:

I don't know the offset on the cobra wheels but I know they're 114.3 and 8" wide.

I believe they have an offset of +30mm, so no, you would not use spacers. You may have problems with fender rub though.
