i have a 96 eclipse gst and im wanting to get bigger rims for my car and i also want to lower it a little bit too. so what i want to know is how much i could drop my car with it still being driveable and not rubbing. so if anyone can tell me that from 16, 17, and 18" rimz how much i could drop it. and also if u have tips on what size tires to get with a drop.

can anyone help me

I am putting 18's on my car, as long as you get low profile tires you can drop the car quite a bit. If you get thin tires, it will already drop your car from the stock tires and also give you more room to work with if you want to drop it even further with spings/coilovers. Then again, depends on if you want performance or looks, cause the low profile tires might not give the performance you want... just advice from a newbie, could be totally wrong...

PS: don't know what to do about the tips

I have 17 with low profile.
I use H&R springs with new kyb gr2 its drop about 2 inchs.
Just got to watch out for dips into drive ways, other that that i dont have a problem with bottom out.

But what ever you do you will new new shocks your old ones will go fast probley.

An the performance of my low pro are farly good its better that stock.

(ps please dont flame me for my spelling)

thanks guys, ive looked around and i think im going to go with some 17's with 215/45/17 tires, then drop it 1.3" with some eiback springs and top it off with some kyb shocks and struts

what does everyone think about that? and if anyone has any other ideas please post a reply

thank you to all that posted

Ya, sounds really cool. Either way, the 17's or the 18's are gonna do you good, it really depends on your personal preference on how the car looks. I put the 18's on and i still have a lot of room to lower it, but if you want to drop it a lot, the 17's are probably a better bet. As long as the width matches up with the sides of your car, so your tires aren't to wide or to narrow... it will look really nice. But, in my opinion, the eclipses look a lot cooler with a bigger rim, like an 18, rather than a 17. Good luck, sounds like it's gonna be cool either way...

This is only the case if he uses the same size rim as stock.

if you put my stock 17 GSX wheels next to my 18". they are exactly the same hight, to hense there will bo no such lowering..

I have 18x8.5 on a 1.3 drop and I have no rubbing. I also had to run FULL bump stops in the back or I would occasionally kiss the tire coming off the end of a bridge or HARD dip.
