I just got my Baer Track brake kit and rear rotors, anyone have this kit? Any problems with 13" rotors and 17" rims? Any suggestions for the install? Have any problems installing? What brake fluid should I use?

Yes.... I do!

No, I don't have the Baer Rear Kit yet , but I will.

Yes had problems with 17" rims, MAKE SURE they fit . I ruined my brand new 17" rims ( can't remember what they were) they looked like a two piece wheel ( spokes mounted on the inside of the rim, so the rim had a big lip) Everything went on, but when I backed out of my garage the calipers scratched the rims very badly. Now I have 18"s, were the spokes mount on the outside and have plenty of room. Problem now is I can't run DR.....try to find a 17" rim that the spokes mount on the outside and you should be fine.

Yes, the only problem I had was getting the old rotors off, get a Sledge hammer, and BOOM they come right off then.

Use ATE Super Blue Brake Fluid it's what everybody at the road racing tracks use......I still need to change mine to this.

Good Luck...its an easy install.

hey speedracer.... racer-x here...... where can you get that break fluid at i've tried looking for it locally and cant find it anywhere, and there isnt anyone around here thats even heard of it. this reg. dot 3 sucks.... it dosent hold up to the heat and is causing more break fade

Extreme Motorsports now sells it....

ATE Super Blue Racing Brake Fluid [EXM0718] $19.95

A high performance brake fluid for coping with the extreme demands of racing, this fluid also works well on the street. Due to its outstanding wet boiling point, it has high safety reserves. Better than DOT4/DOT3, SAEJ1703 and ISO 4925 fluids. Suitable for all brake and clutch systems rated for DOT brake fluids. Dry boiling point: 530 degrees F, wet boiling point: 392 degrees F.

I have them and love them. Fitment is trial and error I'd say. I can say that the calipers DO NOT clear 1998-99 GSX wheels. I learned that the hardway. I didn't ruin a set like gstspeedracer, but I was ready to go, tried to bolt them on and then had to wait 2 weeks while I selected, purchased and was shipped another set of wheels. I ended up with Konig Tantrum 17 X 8 with 40 mm offset and I have plenty of clearance. I think you will have more luck with a wider wheel. My GSX wheels actually allowed the caliper to rub on the backside of the spokes--they were only 6.5" wide wheels.

I hear that template that Baer has on their site works pretty well. Don't ask me why I didn't use it (ask gstspeedracer) :p Good luck with them.

BTW, I did a 100-5 mph stop the other day. Very nice--not scary at all like the stock brakes. You can do 60-0 all day without having to worry about fade too. I highly recommend the Performance Friction Z-rated pads too. $70 at Autozone.

Well, they don't fit... guess I'm getting new rims... I have konig temper 17 X 7.5 and they almost fit.... I guess I learned the hardway too!

I like those Konig Tantrum's how much were they?

I got my brakes direct from baer and they didn't tell me about the template... but they did say my rims would be fine... show's what they know... LOL

Yes, 13" rotors. I paid $696 for those wheels, shipped. Quite a deal if you ask me. I found the source through Groupbuycenter and the groupbuy basically offered free shipping. They came from Nevada and I had them in VA in five days.

Baer has a template on the their website. You can find links to it on the right side of your menu screen when you visit their site. You print it out, check the scaling on it and then cut it out with scissors and put inside your wheel. It is shows where the caliper and rotor go to see if you have enough clearance.

When you start getting in to larger rims it DWARF's the 13" rotors, everybody asks me if I'm sure there 13". My 17x8, you couldn't even fit a sheet of paper between the caliper and the rim, TIGHT.
I didn't find out about the template until I had talked to Baer about fitment problems, kinda late in the game. But, everybody and the mama's said they'd fit on 17x8, WRONG.

Where do they hit? With my TCE 12.2" brakes and 16x7 TRMotorsport wheels I barely hit the spokes where they curve back. I put in 5mm spacers from H&R and it fits great now.

Ford heavy duty dot3 brake fluid has a dry boiling point of 550 degrees and is MUCH cheaper. It does have a lower "wet" boiling point though. For normal street driving if you bleed it every 6 months you will never had fluid fade problems. If you are doing open track days you should change fluid before and after each event though.

hey speedracer thanks for the info. ive been looking everwhere for that break fluid. thanks again.
