Hey all.

I have a 97 gst, and have this super annoying sound coming from the driver side rear wheel well.

It sounds like a front wheel well brake pad when it gets real low, and squeaks when you drive. (annoying constant high pitch sound)

When i drive down the freeway at constant or accelerating speed i can hear it, but when i brake, it goes away, only to come back when i release from the brake.

Any ideas as to what this sound could be? My rims aren't meant for a DSM, they're actually Nissan rims, but i don't have any rubbing in the wheel well.

any advice on what to look for is appreciated!

The rear brake pads make noise when they're low too.. did you check them?

Is this a job i can do myself? Do you have to bleed rear break pads like the front ones? I've never done a break pad job before. Does anyone know of a good tutorial to point me towards?

Thanks for all your help guys.

I have a similar, yet more faint, sounding noise comming from my engine as well. Sounds like the rear wheel well, but not as loud. I had the front breaks replaced, so its not that. Think it could be the front wheel bearings? But wouldnt that something a shop should have noticed when doing my front breaks?

Sorry for the resurrection, but quick question regarding this topic. I have this same noise, just started this morning.

So will the rear pads make a horrible noise even when NOT touching the brakes? I was under the impression that the wear indicators only squealed when pressure was applied.

Thread res.
I have a small squeal coming from the passenger rear wheel (1990 awd). Now it says the brake will make this noise when they need to be changed, but is it constant? Because mine only squeaks(or maybe I only hear it) at under about 10 mph, when I start moving.
I have done a ton of things to cars engine/suspension wise but have never changed brake pads? So, my question is....
With what I said does that sound like a brake pad? And if so, what do I look for as an "indicator"?

Check your pads and if they look low then they will need to be replaced. Could be the indicater is just starting to contact the rotor.

check if your caliper bolts have grease on them... they seems to squeal when its dry... also make sure you your brake pads arent worn... its a fairly easy job to do.... saves you a bit of money...!! and then you know what has been do to your car knowing that you did it right...!!!! just my 2 cents...!!!!

Brake pads wear down its nothing new. Brand new pads are thick. Go to a local parts store and ask them to see the pads for your car, compare to your's and you will have your answer if indeed they were the problem in the beginning. Mine is making an odd noise from the rear as well but I've yet to drive it since I finished the pads last night. Good luck.
