I'm looking at new tires and I'm going with a 235/40/18. I was really just wondering what you, anybody, in you're opinion, is the best traction tire on the street without branking the bank to bad? Any opinions are wanted. Oh and the car is not lowered.

There alot of good tire & fwd tires info on the board here if you do some searching around. After all the research I did, it seems you can't beat the Kumho MX for price vs performance ratio. They may not be the best auto x tire but if straight line traction is what your looking for (which most fwd's are), then they seem to be highly recommended. I picked up a set over the winter & should have first hand experiance in a couple weeks. I would assume your looking for a summer only tires as these are defently not all season & have heard aren't the greatest in the rain but thats usually expected from a tire that does very well in the dry.

I can't vouch for 18s, but I recently purchased a set of Falken Azeni FK 542s from discounttiredirect.com for my 17s. Hands down they are the best tire I've had to date. $99 shipped/tire. I think the 18s are about $112 shipped.

I'm looking to buy the Bridgestone RE-01R, Advan Sport or Advan Neova. I think for the track I might try the Falken Azenis 615 because it seems to get good reviews and is fairly inexpensive.
I have also driven thousands of miles on Michelin PS2's. Awesome tire, but they are pricey. The Michelin PS2's are the only tire that I listed that I have put many miles on; they are just an unbelievably nice tire.

Falken Azenis 615 are more auto-X tires. The new design still gets 'greasy' when they get hot and are best cold. I use the Bridgestone RE-50A and I have a buddy that uses Bridgestone RE-01R on an RX8. Both of use are very pleased with durability and performance. I do second the MXs if your looking for bang for buck.

I did a lot of tire comparisons on Tire Rack before I chose my Kumho SPT tires. I absolutely love them so far. Auto Crossing them the tires felt fantastic. I'm running a 245/40/17 set.

That is the only summer rubber I've run so I can't compare but if you look at Tire Rack's comparisons and then look at prices I think they are by far the best bang-for-your-buck out there.

I dream about the Bridgestone RE-01R's at night. I feel when compared to tires in the same category (e.g. Advan Sport, Advan Neova, Michelin PS2) they are best bang for buck.
Asain312, can you explain the durability of the RE-01R? I noticed it has a 140 treadwear rating, just wondering how fast they will wear out.

Just wait to see what you do to the foo's on Azenis at the first event where it rains. They are very nice tires. ;)

Actually, I'm really looking forward to schooling the guys who brought Hoosiers and can't run them in the rain so they're back to street rubber. ;) I hate how SCCA rules don't separate R-compound users out from street tires in Street Mod. Bastards keep stealing my thunder

I am unsure about the Azenis 615. I read on the NASA board that they are in fact a good tire, but they tend to get greasy as pointed out above. I would run the 615 as my next tire if I could get a deal on Falkens through work. The RE-01R I feel is a better tire overall despite the realitively low usuage among people when compared to the 615. The 615 has a ton of sizes which might sway my purchasing decision when I decide to buy new tires.
I still think the Michelin PS2 is an amazing tire, but it is so expensive!
