Blown Springs?

How can I tell if the springs I want to reinstall on my 96 RS are bad? I have a set of Nuespeed springs that were on the car when I bought it. The ride wasn't bad but there was a lot of clanging so when I removed them to go with some coilovers I found that all I had needed to do was replace the rubber insert between the spring and the perch.

Since I had the coilovers I installed them, but have regreted it ever since. Now I want to reinstall the springs on the Illuminas I have now.

The springs look to be in good shape. However I can squeeze the springs a bit, maybe about a centimeter or two. I know that if I were able to squeeze them together easily they're probably bad...

Unless your springs have been stretched or compressed way beyond its limits, the K, spring constant should be the same. I would think it should be really hard to overcompress the springs that you have, especially since its uber thick and was engineered to handle forces upon it. I believe that your spring is not sitting right with the shock, but your springs should be fine. If you say that the springs compress really easily, it could be just low spring rates.

No, I'm not sure. However, they are only 2 years old and it was barely driven for almost a year while I got a new engine. And the for the time it was driven it was commuter miles on the relatively smooth freeway...
