I asked hotbits about their other setups using nonadjustable dampers for a 2g AWD as the street version(7/4) was a tad soft.
  • Race setup 12kg / 14kg
  • Drag setup 10kg / 14kg , valved with more rebound.
Custom valving at no extra cost. Just need to specify prefered spring rates, no other data required. hm.

I dont know if there is anyone using such a high rate on a dsm. The race setup's wheel rates would be close to 390lbs/460lbs.WTF The drag setup I can see my self swirling around and killing myself if I were to ever take a corner. Can anyone comment on the spring rates they use? I'm trying to find a rational explanation for the spring rates they have setup.

Thanks.

EDITED to correct offered spring rates from hotbits

Your conversion is a little off.

1 kg = 2.2046 lb
1 inch = 25.4 mm

So you want to multiply your kg/mm * (2.2046 lb/kg) * (25.4 mm/inch) = lb/inch

14 kg/mm = 784 lb/inch
12 kg/mm = 672 lb/inch
10 kg/mm = 560 lb/inch
7 kg/mm = 392 lb/inch

I have Tein Flex coilovers with 10/6 rates on my FWD. It's pretty stiff but not ridiculous. With an RM rear sway bar with the holes drilled closer, it rotates OK in auto-X, but I might up the rear rate some time in the future.

I know Dennis Grant runs (ran) really high rates in the front (something like 900 lb/in). He actually did the math and has won auto-X national championships and what not in a 2G DSM. If the Hotbits dampers are able to handle those high rates (as well as your internal organs), then maybe the race setup is for you. The front to rear ratio seems inline with what the serious guys have. Most people don't go much over 500 lb/inch because it usually takes high dollar dampers to handle high rates.

I didn't realize Hotbits offered 2G stuff. What's the price on those?

The 390/460 I mentioned were wheel rates.

I think I can understand you wanting to up the rears as 10/6 WR is aprox 288/277. Our cars stock wheel rates are 1:1. RRE's JIC seem to come with 12/8kg springs which makes the WR a little bias to the rear. Jtmcinder on this board seem to run wheel rates close to 1:1 and he mentioned it being too loose when it had more in ther rear. DG, he suggests going higher up front unlike others, like 2:1 SR. Now the hotbits 12/14's wheel rates is like 345/650, pretty much bias to the rear. I dont even want to think about the 10/14 as I think it's purpose was only meant for a straigh line.

So is there anyone running anything close to 12/14(685/800 SR) or can tell how the car would react ?

Thanks

sorry I don't have the price sheet right now. IIRC the pricing for the hotbit is same for the 1g or galant. You pick the options you want and add them up. They support every option to the 2gen eclipse aswell(pillow ball mounts w/ coaxial upr spring hats, helper springs, 1way adjustable, 2way adjustable w/ canisters...) The beefier constructed rally setup w/ thicker wall, piston and higher ride height cost 10% more.
