Caliper Temps?

Was just wondering if anyone knew a ball park figure of what temp the calipers can get up too? I know it depends on how your braking, this would just be for street use, with the awd brake upgrade. Say if you made a high speed stop from 120 mph? Was just wondering because I bought one of those caliper paint kits but its only good up to 500F, I wasn't sure if that was high enough. I have seen some other places that have a kit that goes to 900F & was wondering if I should get that instead?

You should be fine with the 500 degree paint. Most calipers get too hot to touch, but if you're getting hot enough to burn off 500 degree paint then you'd be boiling brake fluid rated at DOT 5. You're good to go with either, but let's just say you shouldn't be making that kind of stop from 120 anyway.

I use the G2 caliper paint and never had a problem with it flakeing or burning off during 5-6 trips to the autocross track per year, plus some aggressive triple digit stops. Costs about $30, enough to do 2 coats on all 4 calipers. Whichever you choose, make sure that the calipers are clean, that will be the main deciding factor.

Not true, those caliper paints can easily burn. I used duplicolors kit which is supposed to be one of the best. One track session and the red is now a dark brown/black. It got so hot that it literally burned the caliper paint. So I am going to go get swome black caliper paint and do im in that.

However, I have had no problem with it chipping, peeling or anything. That shit stays on, but I literally burned the paint...

Ya the 900F kit I was refering too was the G2 kit. I already bought the one from duplicolour and was going to use it till I saw the higher temp one. Just wanted to make sure if I did use the one I already bought is wasn't going to flake or burn off, don't want to have to do it twice. I will be using black.

How does the g2 kit apply, brush or aerosol?

G2 applies with a brush. Nice kit, come with brake cleaner, 2 part epoxy mix, popcicle mixing sticks, and brushes...all you need. And I have had the front set of brakes (on oem rotors) smoking with no discoloration of the paint/epoxy.

Neither of these things taxes the brake system heat wise?

I bought some of that cheapo autozone caliper paint to get rid of the ricer calipers that were painted red. Works fine for any amount of brake heat.

I don't know any specs, and am not a scientist, but I would imagine that the epoxy paint would 'hold-in' very little heat compaired to bare calipers.

Hey, I painted my calipers red! However it looks really nice behind a set of 18" Velox VX-K sitting on a set of PowerSlot plus rotors.

Thanks for the input, maybe I'll just grab the G2 kit as well & use that. The duplicolour kit I have is basically the same except the paint is a one part instead of two, but its brush on, comes with cleaner etc. I have used the spray caliper paint before on a different vehicle which held up good but it too was rated for 900 deg or so, thats why I wasn't too sure about 500. I went with the kit this time because I think it will give a "deeper" glossier finish.
