question for the suspension gurus. my car 2gen gst is getting real loose (squirly) around hwy curves at speeds in excess of 75mph especially if theres dips and inperfections in the road. the car will not hold a straight line, it wants to go left then right. the car doesnt bounce up and down real bad like those honda guys, and its only been lowered with lowering springs by 1 1/2 inch. Ive checked the swaybars front and rear, looks ok. what else could i look for or check or replace???

thanks fellas

Excuse me if I'm stating the obvious but your alignment should be the first thing you check.

You have excessive toe out likely due to the bushings being old or you have bent something from hitting potholes. Oh yea and you lowered the car, DSM have dynamic toe out in the front to aid in cornering so you have just jacked up the toe by lowering the car. DSM also have dynamic negative camber so you again need an alignment and likely a camber kit to keep your tires from shreading the insides off.

The bump-camber curves for a 2G are steeper in the rear than in the front, so this is not a likely source of oversteer. The reason that we delete rear camber after lowering a 2G is to loosen the tail.

Did you ever think that it is because your car is FWD not AWD and you are going over 75mph ( which is speeding, which is illegal) around a corner that isn't made to be taken that fast. Try checking your tire pressure first and see if you got some that are low.

Yeah, FWD isn't going to hurt a turn that bad... let alone at all, unless you're getting torque steer which isn't happening at 70 mph unless you're 500+ hp. I have FWD with stock suspension and nitto neo gens, I can take turns, in the rain at 70+ easy, let alone in the dry. You've definitely got something out of alignment.

Dude, it's possible that he noticed that from driving on the highway. I go 75 all day on the toll road in indiana. Also, FWD isn't going to make a difference on highway driving that much. Unless he had the car sideways, it won't make a difference.

I'd agree with worn or bent parts causing massive rear toe if it doesn't want to stay straight at any speed and is twitchy at high speed.

Ball joints and tie rod ends are flopping around. Did you get the recall performed?

no, i didnt get the recall done, maybe thats it.
what do i gotta do to get the recall done?? just go to mitsubishi dealership??

thanks.

Yes, and soon. From the way you describe your car, there is a butt-load of slop due to wear in your frontend.

fellas, sent my car in for an alignment. They said the rear were way off, causing the ass end to fish tail at high speeds. havnt got the car back yet, but will give update when i take her out when i get her back. also i checked the front end for excessive movement from the lower control arm and tie rods, theres no play at all, should i go and get the recall done?? its just that i gotta drive 1.5 hr to the nearest mitsu dealership.

thanks

I'd call them first to check if its been performed already. Its the first thing I did when I bought my car. Just give them your VIN and they'll be able to tell you when it was done, or if it still needs done. Good luck!
