I was looking at the rear camber kits for a 2g talon. and it doesnt look like much more than putting washers behind the mounting brackets to shim them out. if so cant i get washers for only a few dollers.

Thanks you just saved me 80 bucks now i can get a front kit instead unless you can make a homemade one also

will this work on a 97 spyder gs? after reading the article it looks like most people add a camber kit after lowering the car...however my camber is off and i havent lowered it yet...i have 18s on my car and the inside of my tires are wearing down really bad in the rear...will this correct the problem?

thanks

It should. Eclipses have very little adjustability for camber, and almost none for caster from the factory. IF you put bigger than stock wheels and/or lower the car, a camber kit is usually necessary to bring your alignment specs back (or close to) stock.

A) Yes it will work on your car.
B) How do you know your camber is off?
C) No, camber will not significantly alter the wear of your tires. Get your toe corrected.

i dont know that my camber is the problem, i just guessed thats what was causing my rear tires to wear down on the insides. the tread on the outer half of the tire is fine!!! the inside is wearing down almost to the threads.

I know you're a wiseman and all, but I don't see how this statement is true.

I had bad camber after lowering my car (yes I had an alignment done) and my rear tires were horribly worn on the inside because of it, faster than the fronts with less camber. One of the rears actually blew out because of it. Since installing the home made camber kit my tire wear has dramatically improved. I assume it's because more of the tire is supporting the car's weight compared to before the camber kit.

Bad camber, huh? When I lowered my suspension, I got the good kind. :)

Think about it this way: As camber moves away from zero, you shift more weight to one side of the tire. For better handling, some negative camber is recommended. This is usually around 2 or 3° negative at the most. As you can imagine, this concentrates more of the vehicle weight on the inside of the tire, and this is what leads many to conclude that the wear they see on the inside of the tire is due to the camber shift. But, are we transferring 100% of the weight to a two-inch strip of tire? Not hardly. And even if that was true, it’s not even the weight that causes the wear. Does a 5000 pound vehicle wear out tires at twice the speed of a 2500 pound vehicle? No.

The camber on my car has been at –1.5° camber in the front and –1° in the rear for over 20,000 on tires that I expected a tread life of 30,000. The way they look now, I think I’ll get another 20 out of them and there is no sign of uneven wear. I don’t think any knowledgeable person will tell there is no increased wear due to camber, but it is slight, especially compared to the damage that can be done by incorrect toe.

It would seem that your experience defies this logic but do you know if your toe settings were correct after your alignment was performed? Even if it was, it could change at the next pot hole.

That's a good question that I don't have an answer to. That was a while back and could've been a contributing factor. I know that now it's working pretty well though.

On a side note, i've seen ads for some new Nitto tire that's supposedly engineered for negative camber, anybody have thoughts on those?
