I did some research on the rx7 wheels and found out a couple of things. I did a search and found nothing on this board about the wheels so here goes. It seems that people are saying if you get these wheels then you should go with the 94-95 year wheels and not the 93's because these have a somewhat lighter casting and the 94-95's have a reinforced casting, this isnt true. I was on the rx7 club board and it turns out that 93-95's could have had both, heck I saw a friend the other day (original owner) we did a brake job and it turns out that he had the reinforced wheels. Even owners of 94-95 rx7's were saying that they had the lighter non reinforced wheels. So the only way to really know if the wheel you have is the reinforced one is to check the inside of the wheel. The stronger one will have a bell shaped holes in between the lug holes and have more material cast into the spokes. The weaker one has less material on the spokes and has a square hole in between the lug holes.

Heres a picture below that shows the difference between the two. The lighter casting on the left and the reinforced wheel on the right

I have yet to see a cracked or seriously broken wheel unless someone wants to post pics but some owners of the lighter weaker rims have used their cars for autocrossing and the wheels have held up to that abuse.

Mine are off of a 93 and i've had no problem with cracks of any kind. I don't remember but i'll have to check to see what casting they are (i'm thinking lighter casting).

Also if you haven't put them on your car yet you will probably need some kind of spacer for the front.

I just posted this to let people know which wheel they have, the lighter casting or the heavier one. Alot of people just say get the 94-95s because they are the heavier casting. The thing is that this is not true, the truth is that any year FD in the U.S could have either casting.

Thanks for the info spdyer, thats something I didn't even know. I've had mine on for about 3 years now and everyday I see more and more people using them, so its good info for those interested. Do you now have them on your car, I haven't seen any pics with them on 2g's.

Thanks for the props ryu :thumb:. Mine used to have that much wheel gap too OMG. Good choice on the wheels.

do you guys think with a 245 tire, extended lugs, and 15mm spacers that it will stick out of the side of the car? if so how much

thanks tuners :thumb:

I run a 225 tire with 1/8" of spacing and the front stick out just a little, not real noticable unless you look down on the wheel from above it. I would imagine with a 245 and 15mm it would be a little more noticable.

Now on the rear, I dont run any spacers and it fits perfectly, doesn't stick out at all. But i'm also fwd, I'm not sure if you would need any kind of spacers on an awd.

i was kinda mad when i found out i had the weaker ones. im getting them painted as we speak (gun metal). they should look pretty clean but should i have any problems with them launching and driving hard?

i had 3rd gen rx7 wheels on my 90 awd .. i had to grind off the outer lip of the lower control arm on both sides in the back and i was running 1/4 spacers all the way around.. no rubs or anything and i had h&r springs w/ adjustable kyb's on it.. if you do a search in the pics section for my s/n i belive you will find the pic's.. mine have the little bells in them :D and i painted mine gunmetal as well.

yeah that is true. it still would suck to have to get another rim painted and then mount and balance the tire again. i have had them on for like 2-3 weeks now and i havent experienced any problems with them yet. i launched it hard 1 time and burned out all through first with the 225/50/16 kuhmo escata supras i pruchased. this was all rims because my motor is shot yeilding out only 130 in all 4 cylinders and stock boost.
