Weird knocking sound when turning.... help plz!

My car has been suffering from one thing after another. Right now my car is making a weird knocking or thumping sound when I turn my steering wheel to the left. But I only barely have to turn it and it starts knocking and I can hear it and feel it on my gas pedal foot. If I'm driving straight, there's no problem, and when I turn the wheel all the way to the left there's no problem. I'm seriously confused. My current suspension setup is KYB AGX shocks and unknown brand lowering springs (they're red if that helps? :p ), and front and rear upper strut bars. My car also recently almost lost the front passenger wheel on the freeway because of loose lugs and that made a similar sound when it happened. I checked all of the lugs on all the wheels and all are tight. Maybe the alignment? Maybe something else in the suspension? I'm seriously confused right now. :confused: I love my car but I just wish the problems would end! :(
 
does is sound like a clicking sound, or a thumping? If clicking you axle is probably bad, but if thumping could be a few things, tire out of balance, alignment, tire rod end, bad ball joint, etc. Quite a few things to look into. Don't know if this helped you out much.
 
As always: first jack up the car and yank on the wheel, both at the top and bottom, and also at the sides. If it wiggles during both tests, suspect wheel bearing, ball-joints, and such. If it only wiggles when yanking on the front and rear (sides), then suspect tie rod.

And, of course: has the ball-joint recall been done? Funny you didn't mention this, because any search for your symptoms will raise this issue.

And if it is a clicking only to one side, think about you CV joint.
 
It is very likely a CV joint, but that doesn't mean you should skip the standard process of checking the easy things first.

Same thing happened to me and it ended up be both axles were shot. Look and see if your CV boots have any tears in them, don't just replace the boot replace the whole axle if that ends up being your problem.

yea, the cost of labor and boot swap was 65 for me.

new cv if in stock, 55 with core swap thru carquest.

Yeah till napa gives you the wrong axle twice for the pass side and your driver side is seized in the hub resulting in a new hub also being needed with the axle. Good luck man. This stuff gets expensive. Make sure its nothing small first. :thumb:

hmm....

maybe they were giving me the pass side too.....

I gave up and got mine rebooted tho I wish I was able to get ahold of the correct new CV.
 
yea my local place gave me the wrong one two different times... I got a refund on their crap part and went elsewhere... just double check it fits into the trans and the hub RIGHT before driving it, or it may be very costly.
