i was just wondering what kind of tool to use to get the rear brake piston to go in, the chilton names some tool model number but I have no idea where i could pick one up today. Its just a single piston caliper on a 1g

Rented mine from Autozone for about $40. Just tell them you have the screw-in type rear caliper and they should know what you are talking about. You get the whole $40 back when you return it.

Or if you dont own some needle nose pliers for some reason, I just took a screwdriver and put the shaft of it in the piston and turned it, while holding down the shaft in the piston. Works that way to

yea after a very frusterating time with my rear brakes, i figured out that they screw in to create space for the new pads....man was i pissed

My rear pads are worn out, Im going to change them tomorrow is there any special tools or things I need to do this? Ive changed brake pads before, no problem just not on a DSM. thanks guys.

The only difference on the rear then most other cars is that the e-brake uses the brake pads to operate. Most cars have shoes inside of the rotor that do this. On a dsm there is a spring on the brake caliper that the e-brake cable is hooked up to. Its not hard to figure out how to change them though.

Yeah no special tools. They'll take a little longer than the fronts. Disconnect the ebrake cable from the caliper it will make it much easier.

yea hopefully all went well for you. Its really not a hard job first time takes a lil bit just to get used to it but the next time will be a breeze.... and yea just change them all while your at it, and if the fronts are in decent shape just keep em around never know when you could use em.... but thats just me cause im a pack rat with parts haha

Not hard at all to do. C-clamp to compress piston, but make sure you have the cap off the master cylinder and a rag over it to prevent brake fluid getting all over
