Replacing my ball joints today i noticed my calipers were loose and are missing the gromets that go on the bolts to keep dirt out.Bolts rattle against the caliper.when i hit a bump..small or large i hear a loud clank sound and can feel it a little in the steering wheel.could this be my problem?. Oh and im replacing the bolts and gromets tommorow.thanks in advance!

If you hear a loud clank when you hit a bump and feel it in the steering wheel then its your suspension. Maybe some of the bolts on your suspension components are loose. Another thing, the caliper bolts are not suppose to be that tight anyway.

Just wondering, Why did you have to replace the bolts? The dust boots/grommets you definitely NEED but why the bolts? Were they damaged?
Where did you find those dust boots/grommets at? Were they real high $$$? Got a part number for them?

The reason I ask is because when I went to Advance to try and just buy the grommets the fools tried to sell them to me with the bolts as a 'kit' for more $$$. I told the fools that my bolts were fine but they claimed that that was the only way they sold them... WTF

I think most of the guys there are ignorant, and nearly every time I go there to buy a part that is more complicated than 'motor oil' , they prove it... :toobad:

Thanks... :dsm:

If the Calipers/Bolts are rattleing, you need more than rubber grommets. If the other side doesn't have the same problem, pull off the wheel and compare the two sides. Check the bolts for obvious damage/stretching too. While you are under there, check the front sway bar bushings. If they are worn, that would be a source of noise too.

Both sides are doing it and i get same sound when i just move the caliper a little..Dealer also said that there is a boot at the end of each bolt..I think im missing that to..Well the inner outer tie rods and both bottom ball joints are new..Anything else i can look for?All bolts are tight tWTF!!h and dealer wants 8.50 ea for bolts and 2.50 for gromets. The reason i want to replace the bolts is cause im already taking them out so what the hell :thumb:

oh and caliper is hitting the bolt and that is what seams to be the cause of my noise but checking all possibilities.thanks!

CAPS shows a bushing between the bolt and the caliper. Maybe your bushings are worn out or missing?
