4ws can it be done................

the 3000gt vr-4 did. I don't think you'd notice that much improvement, at least not enough to offset the weight gain. It's several hundred pounds.

The rear suspension on the AWD has some rear wheel steering built into it. If you look closely you can see the rear wheel turn a few degrees when you jack up the rear end. If you make a right turn the right rear suspension extends and the wheel gets a little toe out while the left wheel gets some toe in. Pretty cool, eh?

Hmm... I hope I didn't give anyone the wrong impression, I didn't mean to imply that DSM AWD had rear steer, just that the sophisticated multilink independent rear suspension on these cars ( and many others ) has a tiny little bit of toe in/ out built into it to aid in corneing agility. It's not as much as true rear steer, but the difference can be felt when driving a FWD DSM back to back with a AWD DSM.

-It's the rubber bushing on the front part on the trailing arm that flex, if the rubber is aged, it might over flex and cause 'snap oversteering' during hard cornering. I had welded the trailing arms solid and it feel more solid while corner hard.

Personally, I think the amount of time, effort, and money would greatly outweigh the performance increase.

Just to play devil's advocate (I agree that 4WS is not worth the effort) you could in theory take the front A-arm and steering components from a FWD or AWD, then adapt the rear mounting points to match. Then there's controlling the amount of steer assist at speed, connecting the rear system to the steering wheel (remember, you must somehow under-drive the rear system so it turns slowly), and adapt rear to a strut type setup. Hmmm... If you pull it off, yer a Ninja, if not, then yer still way fast.:dsm:

As if that weren't complicated enough, a good rear steer (like the ones on the cars mentioned above) will turn the rear wheels in the opposite direction as the fronts at parking lot speeds ( <5 mph) for tighter turning/ maneuverabilty/ parallel parking, etc. At driving speeds the rear wheels turn the same direction as the fronts, but at a reduced rate. Best way to do that is with an electric motor/ servo driving the rear steering arm and controlled by a speed and steering wheel sensing circuit. Still want to try it?!

you can retrofit the 4ws from a gvr4, but I just went thru so much work to REMOVE it (as do other gvr4 owners) that I would say it's not worth the effort. the car becomes unbalanced under braking. my gvr4 handles a billion times better without that garbage.

Yes don't waste your time, I am going to remove my 4WS, you don't really notice it at all, it only works after 30< mph and is only good for quick lane changes. When you hit the breaks on the car while turning the rear wheels return to their original position.

One time after I just got my GVR4 I was coming back from the mountians, at one point the down-hill road splits to 4 lanes so I was doing about 65 when I hit the breaks the back end felt like it was going to go flying out OMG ...scared the living sh** out of me...

Oh yeah, the system weighs about 45 extra lbs...
