So this weekend I install my big brake kit and I put my 18x8 enkei zoku's (235/40 Kuhmos)back on and it's a damn close fit, then it gets torqued and no more fitting :(.

So i did some research for lightweight wheels. I think i've decided on the Volk TE-37's. I've gotten so used to 18" i don't want to go smaller. I'm clueless when it comes to offsets and fitment even after reading the sticky. I want to know if anyone with a DSM is running this size and do they fit? I'm pretty convinced they will clear the calipers in a 40mm or 30mm offset. I'm wondering if 18"x8.5 will fit. Currently I have about a 2.5" drop with Sprint springs. My current setup has never rubbed or had fitment problems. I haven't installed a camber kit yet but i have purchased it, hopefully that won't have a negative impact on fitment.

I'm also interested in lightweight wheels for the track, some that aren't crazy expensive and will fit. (i heard the same size in different brands can rub or not rub).

Also I'm thinking this is a no for AWD cars, but can the offset or width be different on the front and back?

Thanks in advance.

Buzz! Camber and offset have zero to do with each other. Thanks for playing.

As to whether the difference between 225/35/18 and 215/35/18 is enough to trash a center VC, there is no definite answer. I would love for you to volunteer to be the test subject, but I can't in good conscience suggest it.

No definitive answer for this it seems, but I wouldn't test the VC's ability to cope with a different wheel size/offset/tire size.

As for everything else I don't have any experience or knowledge on it, so wait for someone else who's been around the block to get to this ;)

There's nothing wrong with 235/40/18s on 8.5 inch wheels with 40mm offset. It's the 2.5" drop that will be problem.

Hmmm, 245/40/18s on 8.5 inch wheels with 40mm offset, I think someone around here uses that combination...

Oh yeah, me.

The tire will be close enough to the rear steering knuckle that tire brand (specification) will need to be considered. Suspension lowering and corrected camber will likely result in fender rub. Height adjustable suspension is recommended.

You're either going to have to run a spacer or run a lower offset to clear the calipers.

I don't know what kit you're using but I reccomend asking the manufacturer.

40mm won't cut it without a spacer on most wheels.

???

Clearing the calipers on our cars is almost always a diameter issue, not an offset issue. And didn't Wret just say he is running this setup?

I'm not sure which "big brakes" he's working with. Offset is definitely a concern with some four piston calipers.

Thanks for the replies guys... I have Rotora Big Brakes, and there pretty big ;(

Caliper clearance is why EVO's can't run 40 offset wheels.

He never said clearing the calipers was limited to just the diameter of the wheels.
