It's kinda dumb question but..

I 'm curious if there exists any coil over or just a spring/shock combo for a 1G front that utilizes smaller diameter spring/pearch that would free up some space to mount wider rims and tires. I 'm already on 235 series 7.5 rim and damn FWD just begs for traction :) Thanks.

Yeah any sleeve type coilover. I got 8" long front springs which was too tall so I had to cut the stock perch down in order to drop the sleeve to get the height I wanted. This gave me much more room for wider rims or more offset.

what kit do you have? I thought that many coil over set ups still use the stock strut/housing like ground control etc. How wide of a tire&rim could you stuff in there? What off set? Thanks.

Yes but the new springs hug the strut so you can cut away the stock perch. I think they all use 2.5" ID springs. I could have mounted 17x8 w 45 offset easily.

I 've been gone for the week-end, anyway..

Since you 've done the research already, which kit do you run/is better in your opinion? I can only think of GC and DSS ones. What else is out there? Is it possible to purchase just fronts? I can mount a lot of rim/rubber in the back of my FWD and I already have some AM springs. Thanks for all your input.

GCs are just ok but you need a shock that matches the spring rates. Koni yellows are ok, Bilstein inserts are better and be revalved. When you figure all the time and money involved trying out springs, revalving shocks etc. if I had to go through this again I would buy Bilstein based Hot-Bits coilovers and do it right the first time.

Cool, that's the type of info I need. Who sells the bilstein based kit? I don't think I ever saw anything other than kyb and koni for 1g. I heard good things about bilsteins before. They are the 'inverted type' shock right, which means they can take much more side load due to their construction (not that I 'll ever realize that potential) Keep up good work, you are my man :)

That thread was an eye opener. Thanks for all your help.

What did you end up getting? Just curious.
