I just ordered some 18" wheels and need to know the tire size that would work best. My '95 Talon TSi is at stock height, but a future lowering may be in the works. Not much, just suttle. I heard of someone running 225/40-18. Would that work?

as stated above: 225/40/18 on 18 x 7.5-8.0 rims w/proper offset will work fine. you could 'slam' the car 2 1/2" on that setup if that is what you wanted to do (though i would definatly recomend camber kits).

This is probably very obvious, but as you use bigger wheels, the sidewall height must become shorter. This way, the aspect ratio stays the same. 18 inches is a big wheel, and you might have to go shorter than a 40 series tire. Maybe a 35 series tire. Although, a higher width tire can be used to make up for the short sidewall, to keep the aspect ratio correct.

Spidey, that's a f*king cool pic of your Gst, with the flames and all. (With the exception of the side skirt.) Is the pic CGI?

225/40/18 is .8% difference in diameter than the stock 205/55/16 that came stock on a 2gb eclipse. you should be (as a rule of thumb) be no more than 3% different for speedo_gearing compatability.

Thanks for the input guys. I put 215/35-18's on them and they were just too damn low-pro. The overall diameter of my stock wheels and tires is 24.5 inches. With the 215/35-18's the overall diameter is 23.9 inches, and if I go with 225/40-18's the overall diameter will be 25.0 inches.

I have opted to go with the 225/40-18's, I think that will look and ride the best, especially since I do not plan to lower my car any. You say that they shouldn't rub with the "proper offset", but what is the proper offset? I just ordered 18" wheels for a '95 Eagle Talon TSi and they didn't ask me for any offset options. I guess this means they will work fine???

agree, to harsh a ride, plus you run the risk of 'cratering' a rim.

if you ordered them for your car, they will work fine.

Stay with or very close to the stock overall rolling diamter when changing wheel/tire diameters. It is pretty easy math to determine what size would be correct.
