Hi,
I've bean reading all the threds on coilovers and it feels like I'm going in circles. The one thing everyone agrees on is the Tenin SS coilover system, cool, but I don;t have that kind of mony. With all the other coilovers I hear an equal amount of like and dislike for every brand out there so I don't know what to get. As soon as I think I found a coilover system that people seem to like I come across about three or four people who just rant and rave about how terible they are. So any help woul be apriciated.I would like to limit myself to around $700 to $800. I use this car as a daily driver but like to open her up on the twisty back roads. I'm not sure what is better though, I was looking at the NEX system, or the APEXI WS coilover system, but I've had adjustible shock on all my previous cars, and am used to useing those to adjust how stiff my ride is, so then I started thinking of a two pice kit like Tokico Illuminas with Eibach ground controll. I'm running a 97 GSX and when replacing my brakes just recently found out that the car still had the orginaly shocks and springs. On top of that the shock were wet, so I figure they are blown. Also for some reason my frount bumber is sitting at 8" off the ground. Is this normal for stock? Thak you for and help.

great questions, I'll be watching this thread because I am in the same situation with all the previous coil threads and looking to spend about the same on a decent setup :thumb:

Here's the problem. You can't get a good system for $800. Handling and ride depend more on the shocks than anything else. But if the total package has to be under $800, then Koni Sports - which are the best OTS shocks for a 2G AWD - are out because they'll only leave your $250-$300 for everything else. So you're back to Illuminas, but these can't handle the high springrates of a good coilover system.

Up your budget to about $1000 and get Konis and GCs. If that's impossible, either wait a few months for something very cool that will appear on the market or get the Konis with H&R OE Sports or just get the Konis and save your pennies.

So for $1k you'd say get Konis and GC? Being a suspension dolt I have a few more questions.
Would these konis work: http://www.machv.com/konadshocab.html

As for the Ground Control Coil Overs, their application guide shows the following part numbers
Part # Make/Model Year Shock Drop Price
5520.01 Talon AWD/FWD 95- 1 0 to 3 $ 399
5520.02 Talon AWD/FWD 95- 2,3 0 to 2 $ 399
5520.03 Talon AWD/FWD 95- 4 0 to 3 $ 399
5520.04 Talon AWD 95- 7,8,10 0 to 3 $ 399
The obvious difference is the shock #s what do these #'s refer to and which is the appropriate choice for this application?

Thanks
Slip

You can get a full set of Koni Sports for less that $750 ... keep surfing.

As to which GC set to get, you must specify which shocks you'll be using when you call. You also have the option to get springrates different from GC's default. I would suggest that you up the rear rates a bit, as long as you're not the type to panic mid-corner and hit the brakes.

For $900 thought I can get Tenin SS coilovers. Aren't the Tenin SS the ones with the adjustible shock too? The thing is, is it better to have the onepice coilovers like the Tenins, Apexi WS, or the NEX systems, or is it better to get the two difforent pieces and fit them together. The Apexi WS and the NEX system though do not have adjustible shocks on them. How much of a hassle is caused by not being able to ajusts the stiffness of your shocks?

JToby--Thanks for the advice on the setup, you've really helped me out a lot. :thumb: what numbers would you rec. for rear spring rates (no I'm ont the type to panic in a corner...I'm from the bygone days before ABS and other such things where instead of freaking out on a corner if it starts to go you punch it a little more to get it to squat and pull through)

Just for the record, it's actually Tein, not Tenin.

Sorry, that was just really annoying me.
