I have recently decided to purchase the TEIN suspension kit Type SS for my 99 gs-t FWD, i asked a couple of the shop workers and they said it was necessary to buy the Pillowball Upper Mount (ball bearing) that was offered from TEIN separately, however, i talked to a couple of my friends that have the TEIN suspension kit and they said that they were doing fine without it, what is the main function of the Pillowball Upper Mount? and is it worth the extra 250 that i would spend to buy it? how necessary is it?

It might give you a little more bump travel if you really want to lower the car far (which is not good with the 2G suspension because it puts a lot of lateral load on the shock shaft). Oh it also makes your car loud as hell. The car will sound like it is crashing over expansion cracks, driveways, speed bumps, etc.. I wouldn't recomend them personally.

Yeah i know what you mean, i had to get them for my car also. Funny thing car is still in the shop and never even tested them out, ohh well the guy told me that it would take many lbs of stress of the strut, when it goes over bumps and at highspeeds

i thought the function of the beaing pillow ball was to provide better handling and will make your coilovers performance better. but no it's not necessary to buy them, and isn't what your talking about nick called bump stops?

Shorter bump stops can give more travel too.

The overall height of a pillow ball mount (from the spring seat to surface that touches the frame of the car) is lower. When I put in GC camber plates (pillow ball mounts) on my car the front end was lowered .25" without changing the height of the spring collar. When I raised the collar back .25" I got another .25" of exposed shock, ie bump travel.
