Well i installed eibach sportlines yesterday, the car ride felt better and smooth until i got out to the road, i mean the car was bouncing around, i could feel every bump, if i took a small change in road material at 40 mph the car would dip hard, the car bounces all around if the road is bad(most roads here are)

I have tokico illuminas in front and GR-2 on the back, could it be that the springs are bad?
They were used, the car runs smooth on highway and feels good and stable, is just that it's almost impossible to drive trough were i live since the roads are not good at all.

Could it be the spring rate? Also would the RS-R spring or tein S-tech be a good replacement?

Thanks

You're sitting on your bumpstops with far too soft dampers.

Charles

hehe i think i'm selling them but i need to know if i could solve this and what spring rate should i be looking for in another spring, this car is daily driven so it can't ride this bad.

well i do believe the gr-2's are pretty much the same as the stockers so you also might want to look into a little bit stiffer of a shock for the back to handle the stiffer spring. :dsm:

Get the right shocks.

GR-2s are only good for stock replacements and should only be used as such. It is not a sport shock.

Whenever you lower ride height with lowering springs you MUST get shocks with shorter than stock shock body length. Think, the car rides lower... if the shock body length remains the same, you now have less travel. Cutting bump stops is only a band-aid fix. You can gain back some of the lost travel by doing it, but there'd be less bump stop material to compress before it can compress no further.

Get the right shocks. A car is more than a mere collection of unrelated parts. It is a collection of parts that must work together as one. Change one thing and you must make changes to the parts that one thing affects.

It's really bad since the roads here suck, i will be putting in some tein s-tech.

What is the best spring rate for a good quality ride?
Not interested in performance that much, should have stayed away from sportlines.

Thanks

the gr2 are like stock but they are stronger and a bit more stiff then stock. no they may not be a race shock but they are most certainly better then stock. But yes they are only good for prokit springs or less drop(1.3 or less). Also the sportlines drop too low for the spring rate they have...with that and a drop too much for the gr2 that would be your problem.
Andrew

if i don't get a local buyer for the sportlines i'll get the rear shocks then, you think this will solve the problem??

The ride is pretty rough too, i mean when i hit a pothole the car sounds dang hard!

Anyways i am thinking of switching to tein S wich are close to stock rate and are not that low since i am scraping the hell out of my car with these crappy roads we have here :(

i would keep the sportlines and just get new rear shocks like gsx rated suggested. but if you are having bad scraping issues, switching to the s techs might be a better idea. they would work well with the gr-2's

If your roads are bad you will need ~$1500 per corner for dampers that work with springs as stupidly engineered as Sportlines.

> 1" dropped ride with bad roads you will need a front spring rate > 400lb/in to maintain any semblance of ride quality. 2" drop you will need > 600lb/in. There are no off the shelf dampers for the later.

You can just about get by with Konis for the former - email JToby for details on available off-the-shelf spring rates, otherwise look at Konis with Ground Control coil-overs, or JIC/Tein suspension kits from _reputable_ DSM dealers - ie those that at least have a clue.

i have pro-kits and illuminas all around, my car rides very nice. I would say it is the springs, they are more of a drop than the pro-kits and more handling oriented i believe, therefore stiffer and more rough-riding. my $.02. hopefully it helps.

Guys I'm about to instal Sportlines with tokico hp (blue) shocks - After reading this I'm thinking the ride will not feel all that good- What do you guys think about putting these two together???

I just put on H&R race springs but I haven't got new shocks yet. Gonna get Koni's as soon as I have the $$. For the time being should I cut the bump stops because my front end in particular is constantly riding the bump stops. If it's a good solution until I get my shocks, how much should I be cutting off?

EDIT: Started a new thread for this question.

That's why lowering springs should always be accompanied by shocks with shorter than stock lengths. Cutting the stops in half might get you by well enough for now, but once you get the Konis, you might want to replace the stops. Shox.com has decent prices for the Konis.

quick question, sorry for bringing back an old thread. To go with Sportlines or H&R Race i keep on hearing that Koni's are the best, now which type red yellow? Thanks

Did you trim or cut the bumpstops before puttin ghtem on?
If not you are riding the bumpstops and you HAVE to cut them in half for the Sportlines.
GR-2s in the back are no big deal, i would worry if they were in the front.
Good luck

Sam

I have sportlines and I like em.I used to have em with the gr-2's and yes they were too bouncy for my liking.now i got kyb agx and all that went away.My car handles twice as better as it did in stock trim but I did sacrifice some ride.I'm not saying that their isn't better spring/shock combinations out there just saying i like my setup thats all.by the way,why are the sportlines so baaadly designed?

I too have Sportlines. Yes the ride sucks if you did like me and put them on with your stock shocks. I almost got rid of them to put the stockers back on but I gave it another try. I bought some KYB AGX's for the front and new stock shocks for the back. What a difference it made! They may not be the best springs on the market but now the ride is alot better. The best part is when I launch, the front doesn't lift up in the air so much!
